We know Game of Thrones like other fictional series often borrow from real events or people in our life. The older obvious examples are of Khal Drogo and his Horde being similar to Genghis Khan, The Andals being based off knights and medieval times while The First Men are often compared to Vikings or older Warriors. With that said I wonder if House Velaryon had any inspiration from the Phoenicians. The Horse Symbols on both Ships of the two cultures led me to that(Both Celebrated the Hippocampus). Also of course these two groups being a people of the sea famously. With trade routes being a pivotal problem in terms of the Velaryons guarding+ Phoenicians being famous for being Traders..Any who it's an interesting thought I had💯
