the TARDIS hummed and whirred , she had been suspiciously quiet for three whole minutes . . . a personal best . raising a brow at the console , sheepish in her demeanour as she turns to yaz . ❛  ah . . . so , funny thing . . .   ❜ there's a slight pause between her oncoming admission . typical . ❛  i might've accidentally landed us somewhere we're not supposed to be .   ❜ she grins like an idiot .

❛  i got distracted calibrating the oscillating function drive . . . all good now though !   ❜ was she expecting some kind of praise from yaz ? absolutely . she snatches her coat that had been thrown over the bannister on the stairs . ❛  right , let's explore then . . . i hope we don't bump into voltaire , i owe him twenty quid from a game of scrabble . i'm convinced he cheated .   ❜

she can't help it: alice laughs, and immediately it turns into a hiccuping sob. she would probably bawl her stupid eyes out, and who knows if she would ever stop, if her self-conscious dislike of crying in front of people didn't get the better of her.

sorry about the crying, sorry about the crash-landing, sorry for the crater and i hope that wasn't where you kept anything important.

but it's the kindness of the vast understatement that gets her. no panic, no frustration, just a quiet (pessimistic?) determination to make it through this, whatever 'this' is. he doesn't owe her anything; they're still practically strangers. that's kind. you'll never convince her otherwise.

Paul was not, in any sense of the word, a friendly person. That being said, the walls he built around himself were not infallible. They had cracks, and no matter how quickly he worked to patch them, he was not quick enough. He had never wanted to come to Starfleet, but he had found that, if nothing else, continued exposure to someone was a decent way of working through those walls.

Which meant that in working with Airiam, he had come to enjoy her company, even if the majority of their relationship was through the comms reaching between engineering and the bridge. She was down with him now, though, and he was looking at the screen of his console, eyebrows furrowed.

“I think I’m forgetting something.” Not a feeling he was accustomed to, and certainly not one he liked, but he could at least blame it on the unsteadiness of his life at the moment. Could he really be blamed if his mind feels a little out of sorts?

“blood?”  the doctor is a bit dazed, and it takes him a moment to properly register the question. "oh!!  right, yes, of course - seems i've had a bit of a run-in.”  he says it like it’s nothing, even though his face is pale and coated in a sheen of sweat.  he glances over the guy, noting his scrubs.  “are you a medical profe--" his words are cut off with a groan as he hunches over.
