Artist's Statement

These Photographs are taken in a comedic way. Photographing action figures rather than people allows me to make the environment appear bigger than it actually is. The figures are more controllable and have no say in the photo and process, when a person would want to move and change things.

“Fug It” (photo final)

In order, the pieces are titled I Love You Me, Sex Dream, and Back At Ya Rabbit.

These are some low quality scans of my photo final “Fug It” in which I did weird stuff in the woods, in just my boxers, then painted on the prints. When I presented the work in class, I wore only my boxers, a robe, and some costume glasses. The point of the work was to do something stupid and silly and spontaneous to comment on the work most of peers make in the photo department, which is usually very serious. I believe as artists, we need breaks from being serious and should be kids sometimes. Half my class loved what I was doing, the other half were offended and uncomfortable with the work and how I was dressed (or rather, not dressed haha). I wanted both reactions, because I think it tells a lot about the viewer. 

Once again, sorry the scans are so low quality, they were scanned really quickly between classes.

Andrew Hyatt: 3 in a 5 part series

Every time you meet someone new, your brain stores an image of that person which can be recalled at any point his or her name may be brought up in conversation. The more time you spend with an individual, the more images your brain has to choose from. When I hear one of my friend’s names, I generally have a series of images, sounds, and ideas connected with them. For my final I wanted to portray a few of my friends in exactly the way they appear in my mind. Whether that be through token facial expressions, activities I associate with them, particular outfits, or physical traits. I chose to shoot these portraits because I want to remember these people the way they are right now. I want to look back on these photos in a few years and spot the differences in how I perceive them now versus how I will perceive them in the future. I thought it would be a more genuine way to portray their personalities rather than just shooting headshots. They may be visually simple but to me, they hold so much personal meaning.
