SketchyMicro (SketchyMedical) vs. Picmonic
These are two online video subscriptions that help you remember microorganisms, disease processes, and pharmacology. They are excellent resources if you are a visual learner like I am. I use both of these for different purposes because they are slightly different.
SketchyMicro - Sketchy excels at creating a story for you to recall. I used Sketchy to learn Microbiology last year and I still remember a great deal from just one view of the video and my notes. Everything in an image has a cohesive meaning from the color of the sky to a space helmet. I use Sketchy exclusively for Micro.
TIP: screenshot the scenes and print them out before you watch the video so you can take notes right on the image.
Picmonic - These videos are interactive and give you more details than Sketchy. However, the stories aren’t as cohesive and are most of the time confusing. I usually don’t remember everything about a scene. I use Picmonic for drugs. Picmonic helps me classify drugs and remember side effects best. Because it is interactive, I learn drugs in a step-wise process. Each time I quickly review a scene, I learn more about the drug. Picmonic videos are shorter than Sketchy videos and they are easier to return to because of the interactive “Review” section.
NOTE: These images are from Google, not from my subscriptions.
