Somehow the books I've enjoyed the most have been the ones i had no prior knowledge/opinion off and #thebrutalart is a prime example. It's also one of the most compelling books I've ever read, the story was so fascinating I just couldn't stop. It was so many things in one, a commentary on modern art, the story of a man, of the man's family, stories that were disparate and yet connected intricately to each both. In short it was very much like the drawing within the book. A definite must read for anyone who loves a good thriller. #books #booksarelove #booksarelife #readersgonnaread #picreview

Review: I bought this palette because my art shop owner suggested it to me as a cheaper alternative to W&N's professional watercolours. Personally, I don't think they've ever tried them out before suggesting them. Let's start with the vibrancy of the colours. Aside from the Intense Blue and the Emerald Green, all the other  colours I have swatched had very little pigment (hence why I classify it as a 'student' grade) and needed a couple of layers to be intense enough and, as the time passed, grew lighter and lighter, despite being closed in the box and not subjected to  sunlight. My cool and warm yellow look almost the same now. I dread to think what would happen to a painting in a living room. Also, the colour choice is kind of   disappointing to me because instead of a cool red I get a cool pink/purple, only one green and Yellow Ochre and Raw Sienna look an awful lot like each other. And the palette itself is a nightmare to use because of the detatchable plastic strips that divide the three rows, that have the tendency to wobble and will make it frustrating to move the colors around if you are looking to add more pans. So, do I only have bad news for this set? ...Kind of, though I do have to say that lately I've been using it for some sketches and with some overcharging the result is not half bad. Finally, it is slightly more expensive than the 12 half-pan Cotman set, which I think has a far better choice of colours and way more vibrancy on the earth tones and yellows, but those extra bucks do not give you any extra at all. I am sorry because I've found some enthusiastic reviews for this brand's products but my experience with them was not positive at all and would definitely not purchase them again.

Review: Great starter palette (I did start with this) and for a beginner it has everything you can possibly want. It's portable and fairly airtight. The colour quality is good to start out, the colours are bright but they DO tend to fade after a couple of months, so I tend to use them for sketches but not for gifted art, which I know will be kept in a lit room. After a while it gets difficult to distinguish the two blue hues because of this. When sprayed they activate pretty fast, have a medium consistency and mix pretty well. If colour is left to dry on the mixing wells, they do tend to granulate a bit, but if you re-activate them you have no problems. The small brush is very soft and holds an honest amount of water for a brush its size. Unfortunately for bigger pictures it makes it really hard to do big washes (obvious), but it does it's job if you don't go any bigger than an A5. If you're planning to do some sketches while you're out, it might be a good idea to buy a plastic cylinder and bring with you a bigger size. Or buy a bigger travel brush. The colour chart sits very easily inside the box, so I don't need to bring my swatches sketchbook around.
