My in-laws have this thing called Piefest, where we all make pies, and then we eat the pies. I'm deciding on what to make, and I'd like input. We try to have a balance of savory and sweet pies, there's about a dozen people going, and it's fun to make unusual pies, but I don't want to make anything so tricky I mess it up. So far, my mother-in-law said she's making spaghetti pie and tomato pie. One cousin is making Canadian sugar pie, and maybe grits pie (?). There's another cousin baking Moo-less chocolate, and the cousin who's hosting and her daughter will probably make a couple. Agh, I'm the last to report. So, I'm thinking about making apple Gouda hand pies. I'm not sure if I want to do a second one or not, and then it it should be savory or sweet, depending on the balance. My maybes on the second pie are: 1. Shepard's pie (I usually do a meatless Shepard's pie, but it looks like we're not having meat, but also it's in a few weeks and it's been a hot summer, so maybe we want something light?) 2. Triple chocolate cream pie http://www.baking-sense.com/2016/03/13/triple-chocolate-cream-pie-candied-cocoa-nibs/ ( looks tricky, and now we already have a chocolate) 3. Maybe like a roast veggie (like fennel and leek) tart using puff pastry 4. I could do a fruit pie, or an ice cream pie, or a cool whip/jello pie which would be easy and refreshing. I kind of want to do a Ritz crackers pie crust bc that went well last year. Opinions, suggestions???
