i am a fan of hating characters but i am a fan of hating characters CORRECTLY

Pierre is a very flawed father but he objectively does talk about Abigail and Caroline, especially Abigail

“Hi, [Player]. How's Abigail doing? The shop hasn't been the same without her...”

“Hey, remember that [item] you sold me the other day? I ended up serving it to the family for a special dinner. My wife loved it! ...And Abby even started going to town on it after I smothered the thing in hoisin sauce. ... well,... back to business, huh?”

“Does Abigail look anything like me? Don't tell my wife, but sometimes I wonder if I'm really the father.”

“I'm going to surprise Caroline tonight with dinner and a bottle of Stardew Red. Don't tell anyone! Finally, a day of relaxation.”

Even though Pierre thinks Abigail isn’t his daughter, he still obviously has a care for her and still sees her as one. Even when he thinks Caroline has cheated on him he seems to attempt to put that behind their relationship.

Yes Pierre is a very flawed father and husband. But does he care for his family? Also yes. Two things can be true at once.

I find this piece of dialog very interesting because it kind of challenges everything we know about him.

“*sigh*... No matter how well the business does, it's never enough to satisfy my desire for success. What's wrong with me? Maybe I'm just bored with domestic life. Some day I'm going to open a new shop in the city and make a killing. Unfortunately, business is so slow I can hardly save any money...”

I personally think Pierre is someone who was raised in a very traditional household and was always expected to do the same. Even though he didn’t exactly want that, probably wanted to focus on business more, that was the life that was already mapped out for him. It was the easier life.

I can’t find it on the wiki, but one year I talked to Abigail and she had a dialog about wearing matching sweaters with Pierre. It was actually really cute…

I haven’t romanced Abigail, but from looking at his quotes, Pierre doesn’t pay any mind to the farmer being a girl if you romance her. Concerned Ape isn’t to afraid to touch on the topic too, as I’ve romanced Alex as a guy and George DEFINITELY has some thoughts on it

“How can two men get married? It's unnatural... Hmmph. I guess I'm just "old fashioned"...”

“I'll admit, I thought it was... strange... for two men to be together. But you're such a nice young man, and I know you two are in love... I've changed my mind.”

(this isn’t george negative, i think his development is sweet, this is jus to point about Concerned Ape has touched on the topic of homophobia before)

I know this is a bit all over the place because I’m forming thoughts as I type so I’ll just end it here with a little summary. My theory is that Pierre was raised in an extremely traditional household and was expected to carry it on.

Him and Caroline both didn’t live a “traditional lifestyle” with Pierre and boxing and Caroline and being a free spirit. When things got tough they decided to settle down and live the life they were told would be easier, which led to an unhappy marriage from both ends.

Pierre and Caroline BOTH have dialogs about “traditional values” I would argue Caroline has much more dialog being negative about Abigail’s hobbies than Pierre. But at the end of the day the both seem to be trying to unlearn those values because it is undebatable they both have a deep care for their daughter.

This fandom view things in a very black and white lens when in reality, it’s just not that. Pierre is a very standard small town father. In fact he’s better than most fathers I’ve seen from where I’ve grown up. Is he flawed? YES! But not the devil himself. So is Caroline. Everytime I talk to her she’s talking about how she doesn’t like Abigail’s hobbies. But I cannot deny they both do care for Abigail and Abigail cares for them.

Although I am pro Pierre I do believe he is both guilty and innocent, a victim of circumstance, and although we should hold him accountable for his crimes he should still be treated with kindness.

The Stardew dads need to hangout together like the moms do with their workout sessions. A barbecue or something. I get the feeling they’re pretty lonely, especially Pierre…does he even have any friends? 😭

Honestly I disagree with Pierre being interpreted as this evil capitalist guy.

He's the only shop in town expect for Jojamart. He takes a break only once a week. He makes new stuff to sell for each town event. He lets his house be used for Yoba shrine and yoga classes. He pays for both his wife and daughter (while not being sure if she's even his). His shady business tactics can be easily excused since he's a small business owner and had to compete against Joja. I don't really understand how is he not supposed to care about money when he's the only one who works in his family and also has responsibility of being the only general store (again excluding Jojamart) in the whole town.

I'm just saying that he's a pretty cool community oriented guy and cares about his family a lot😞 lowkey deserved better💔

Does Pierre like Caroline? A better inquire would be "Does Caroline like Pierre?" Since you know, she's the one that apparently cheated on him with another man, treats her daugther like trash and unlike Pierre stays home all day and never worries too much about their financial struggles, unlike Pierre that would like to bond more with Abigail (ice fest dialogue), and always worries anbout bankruptcy to an unhealty level.

I was at the live and man did I scream of joy when I saw Clint's name.

And I'm so confused on why you all want the cheating wizard, like seriously, Clint is just awkward and anxious, stuck all day inside and unhappy about being pushed by his father to do a job that isn't rewarding for him and yet, unlike the wizard once you raise his hearts he stops being rude (the same as Shane), and unlike the wizard he isn't a stuck-up ass.

And unlike what everyone and their mothers say he is neither an incel nor a creep (watch the cutscenes and read the dialogues instead of skipping them) it's the same problem as with Pierre and Demetrius and your glossing over their wives' flaws in favour of wanting to "save them" from their "horrible husbands" (even more confusing when it's Jody to get this treatment, like, what did Kent do to you?).

Also about the toenails dialogue at Ginger island, he just said that he hasn't clipped them (“Oh no… I forgot to clip my toenails.”), which I suppose just means that his nails are slightly long, but not dirty, on the other hand Shane literally tells you that his feet are so nasty that the crabs are enjoying a meal of toe cheese (“That's right… I'm not wearing any shoes or socks. Some call it a public health risk. The crabs seem to enjoy it, though.”), no hate on Shane, he's one of my favourite characters, but honestly I think his dialogue is nastier and no one seems to talk about it as much as Clint's toenails one.

Anyway, congrats to all the Clint fans (myself included) that will finally get more content of their shy and anxious blacksmith in the next update.

I'm in the process of drafting a Stardew comic (it'll take a lot of time) and to have a better understanding of all the characters i've made a relationship longplay (only daily conversations, 0 gifts) and jesus do people miscaracterize a fuckload of characters

Mr Q is actually quite kind for what little dialogue he has, especially the 100th floor dialogue if you use more than ten stairs, he isn't happy but still thinks your mining must be rewarded because it still takes a lot of effort ... He made me feel guilty for using the 98 stairs I crafted by buying stones from Robin, you all base his morally gray behaviour mostly on the summit cutscene

Pierre isn't as fucked up as people say, thought I would still have my character try to get into a fight with him over his lies about their produce, but other than that he's just a workaholic because he tries not to go bankrupt, feels shame for not being satisfied with what he has and instead wanting more and other than the Abigail's cemetery event he never has dialogue that's sexist (also the cemetery dialogue can be interpreted differently as well) and despite his fear of her not being his child he literally is taking care of her like a father, loves her and would like to have a good relationship with her (and she appreciated him), I especially like the dialogue during the ice fest where he wishes she wore the family sweater and she is actually is wearing it but being edgy and all wants to keep it a secret. For all the talk of Caroline about him being traditional and jealous he doesn't seem to show it

On the other hand, not only there are hints that Caroline cheated on her husband (as someone that's has been on the receiving end it hurts a lot so maybe I'm biased on this one) that get ignored, but she is also the one in the couple who continuosly judges every single thing she doesn't like about her daughter (her hair, her being too pale, her wanting Abs to be more feminine, her not understanding Abby's interests etc), she even has a cutscene about this behaviour but still keeps talking to you about things she doesn't like/understand of her, she doesn't need to be demonized but sure as hell there are a lot of people that would marry her but demonize Pierre

Demetrius as well receives the same shitty treatment and I agree with the people that think he might be neurodivergent because oh boy did I say some shit myself that reminds me of his dialogues, the only difference is that either I've been forced to learn how to mask or I'm more high functioning than him (maybe both), I definitely don't like his being overprotective of his daughter (been on the receiving end of that as well so maybe bias), but unlike a lot of shitty fathers he apologises to you afterwards and it's not something he does constantly, on the other hand I understand the whole Sebastian thing, because the dude really doesn't talk about his step son but I also think that Seb, (while still having good reasons and probably also because of numerous misunderstandings) has built some extremely high walls around himself and this is obvious when it comes to his unnecessary resentment towards his sister that on the other hand wishes to know him better

Also Robin too doesn't talk too much about both of his kids but I see no one being this aggressive about her, and I'm kind of sad for Dem here because while I understand that it can be a bit frustrating dealing with someone that might be neurodivergent in both cutscenes (especially the bed one) she seems so rude towards him, even if he's just expressing confusion towards a concept he clearly doesn't understand (doesn't express it in the best way I understand that, but to be married with him and having a child that old she probably should have figured out by then that he means no disrespect) or something he thinks is common knowledge but it actually isn't and in the second case if you pick the "tomato is a fruit" option he literally tells his wife that he doesn't always understand how people work but will try to do better

I don't appreciate Hayley because of her initial bullying but I also understand the appeal, she does the same thing Shane does, hiding her vulnerabilities by being rude and just like Shane she gets better if you have the patience to gain her trust (though irl I would probably want nothing to do with her, just like I wouldn't deal with Shane)

Also I'm sorry, but oh boy do I find Harvey creepy (because of first hand experience of a relative so maybe bias), his whole "let's put our doctor/patient relationship aside, I want to know you better" and constant remarks about wanting someone to be with him, when he is the only doctor in the area terrifies my already touch averse self, like alarm bells kind of terrified, I wouldn't want to be close to someone as unprofessional as him, let alone have him touch me during a check up.

I'm bringing up Harvey to expand on the Elliott thing, realistically I would definitely be wary of him irl, being that forward and kind to someone you barely know is weird for me (I say this as someone that only romances him and being aware that the initial wariness would definitely go away after figuring out that he doesn't have bad intentions), but unlike Harvey that never seems to adress it, Elliott apologises to you for being a bit pushy at the start of your interactions (also unlike with Harvey, a literal doctor, there isn't a power imbalance between you and a fucking writer) and to beat a dead horse, I would rather be with a dude on a boat where I could still have a chance to swim back to shore than on a fucking air balloon where the only option is to fall to your death or push him to his death and go to jail, also Elliott is the only bachelor that apologise if you say you're unconfortable after he kisses you, no one else does, so why are you all so enraged by him in particular?

Also I adore Sam but I wish he had better high heart events, they're all so childish and kind of demean his more serious dialogues about his family and the 3 heart event on year 1 and I'd like for both Pam and Kent to go to therapy just like Shane, they deserve it just as much as the romanceable character

The only character I kind of agree deserves some hate is Lewis, the dude is in a position of power and is using the community money to do stuff that doesn't help the community at all, also is afraid to reveal his relationship with an obviously adult woman for what reason? How is their relationship going to ruin his career? Does he deserve to be hanged though? Don't think so, he just needs to become better
