(This takes place in New England cuz that’s where Pigment chills!)
The late summer breeze blew gently on the trees in the parking lot of the plaza. The fauna stood in long lines between resting cars. One of those cars pulled in to park.
I turned off my car and pulled the mirror down to adjust my hair. Brushing bits of my curls to try and get the best possible option. I was in casual clothes but still had my iconic blue face mask. Can’t have an average joe knowing my secret identity.. but I could look cute!
Other then the face mask I had a white top with a tied bow at the bottom, black shorts, black hair bows, and of course my indigo nails. Pigment and Deadpool were due for a date! One with no gunfire in their ears. As much as my merc loved the thrill of a fight or two.. we haven’t had the time for eachother! Which made us both miserable..
Unfortunately, Deadpool had a gig he was currently at and would meet me later. I hopped out of my ‘Class X Experimental Hero Mobile ™’, locking it, and being on my way.
As much as I loved to help out, it felt nice to not be on hero duty today. Someone fell in the toilet? Not my problem. At least today. My pink backpack jiggled slightly as I walked, the metal keychain of Deadpool’s iconic icon coming in contact with the Miku Sanrio plush chain. I looked around as if to try and sense with some sort of Spidey sense if the merc was close. But nothing. I knew he would never flake on me, that’s not his style.
I pushed the large metal door into the ice cream place in question, being Cold Stone. Their portions were so big you could have one cone for all 3 meals of the day. I took a seat at one of the empty tables. Taking off my bag to place it at my feet. I checked my phone a moment. Still nothing.. I was.. I didn’t want to doubt Deadpool. He was a great fighter, and surely if even HE needed my help he would tell me.
To take my mind off it, I looked to the menu on the wall. I’ve had about everything throughout my childhood.. but never the sundaes. I shook my head slightly at the banana split. I was never a fan of bananas. That wasn’t all they had though! Under was something called a ‘shortcake sundae. Having fresh strawberries, yellow cake, whipped cream, graham cracker, and strawberry ice cream.’ THAT sounds good.
As I let my sweet tooth run wild my daydream of the treat was cut short by a sound crash outside the glass walls of the place. Being used to that kinda stuff from my work I simply tilted my head to where it came from as other people quickly went to look. Something had basically sonic spinned into the small shrubs in the parking lot. Making them practically explode in a swarm of leaves and sticks.
As more people looked to the glass, I saw a notification on her phone. It was from Deadpool. I swiped open my screen to read it
HUBBY: Hey pretty girl! I’ll be there soon! :33
HUBBY: Like right now 070!
HUBBY: now now now
HUBBY: OW
HUBBY: now
I slowly peeked my head at the glass walls that was covered with other customers looking at what seemed like a car accident.
Getting up from my seat to go outside, Other customers looked at me with bewilderment of why I was going there. Just to be sure it wouldn’t be a civilian who needs help, I went on my tip toes to peek into what’s left of the shrubs. I squinted my eyes trying to decipher any color besides the green of the fauna.
“…Deadpool?” I mumbled out, why the hell was he in the bushes? If it was him in there. After a few moments of silence, I saw a familiar scarred hand lift up from the shrubs. Doing a signature thumbs up before dropping back down. I dropped down to my knees to try and inspect the issue. The merc was laying on his stomach, looking like in the most awkward position to be in if you were to try and take a nap. Similar to me, he was in a casual outfit. A short sleeve crème button up with maya blue stripes and matching crème shorts with a brown belt. Deadpool had his mask on his face but that was the only part of his iconic suit in the outfit.
I gently pat at the merc’s back as if to see if a bird was still alive after hitting a window.
“Are you alright? Who threw you into the bushes?” I asked with a frown. Deadpool raised his face up to me, an unbothered smile in his eyes
“Ahaha… ehhhhhh Nono… I threw.. ow..” The merc started to push myself up only to tense a moment before continuing “I threw myself! Oh man.. that lady had some skeletons in the closet! And a Gila monster.”
As I listened to the merc’s retelling I affectionately wiped any bits of leaves or gun powder off his clothes.
“ ‘No one can find out! No oneeee!!’ Says this crazy lady.. Yknow what she does? She taped a bomb to all the skeletons.. which weren’t skeletons at all they were her reanimated thriller minions who were gonna tackle me into a million pieces! I was going good.. but man I haven’t seen someone that committed sense that guy who tried to steal the moon!” The merc did his usual differing voices and hand gestures as he told his tale. While I smiled at him all the while as I helped him back on his feet.
“ANDDDDDD the only way out was off her roof righttttttt up there!” Deadpool let out a breath after explaining so much and pointed to (at least to me) a random building. That did have a bit of smoke coming out of it. Guess the party poppers went off.
“Woah!” I exclaimed, a lil blankly at first but then more clear. Showing my admiration. “And you came out ok! As usual”
The merc beamed at me, I knew he appreciated my praise. As I did for him. He wrapped one of his arms around me, leaving his large hand at my waist.
“I’ve got a reputation baby! Plus had to make sure no Gila monsters would bother ya” He hummed giving me a lil squeeze before slipping his arm off me.
“So! What’s on the menu gorgeous? Besides you?”
The merc asked with a head tilt in interest. I used my free hand to point at the Cold Stone just a few feet away. Where people inside were still looking at the display of broken shrubs everywhere thinking an alien hit or something
“I was thinking Cold Stone! They have a sundae there I haven’t tried yet, but also it’s a nice place” I chirped earning a pleased hum from the merc “Ohho! That sounds like just the pick me up..”
Walking together now as we went inside the now frazzled Cold Stone. Deadpool glanced around the place with curiosity. I spoke up again, jokingly
“You have any of these in Canada?”
“Nah.. too cold! Our ice cream was just glaciers.” He grinned at me through his mask
I giggled at his usual quips, always enjoying them despite the millions of heroes annoyed groans in my ears that I drowned out.
“It’s this one, the shortcake sundae” I pointed up at the menu in the back where Deadpool’s face followed
“Cake and Ice cream?? What crazy world is this..” He shook his head before winking up at me “ I like it.. Let’s do it!”
After ordering our sundae, we were waiting in line patiently. Happily holding hands like it was as simple as breathing. I looked up at Deadpool to get his attention. “I forgot to say.. I like your outfit!” I beamed, genuine and true. Not that I didn’t love the red and black gun power gasoline hero suit, but damn did the he know how to look cute! Deadpool affectionately rubbed his head against my hair like that of a cat, making me giggle
“You know how to make a merc happy huh? I’m touched..” He made a fake very manly sniffle, before turning to a sly tone “You look good better then me though peanut” Deadpool pulled his mask up slightly to give my head a kiss. I was basically glowing, an uncontrollable smile on my face matching the merc’s now that I could see.
“No that’s you!”
“Noooo!”
“Yea!”
“Nuh uhhhh”
“Wade…”
“Sketchy? :33”
I paused our back and forth a moment as it was our turn. I got our sundae and we dug into that thing like we hadn’t ate in weeks! I was thankful to have the merc with me to finish it as I would of died by myself. Despite my love of sweets. Some bites we would feed eachother and as I savored some of the bits of strawberry in my mouth I found.. Deadpool smiling at me, a lot. His eyes were half lidded watching me eat which made my heart swirl with warmth. I found myself smiling back at him stupidly, tilting my head as I finished my spoon
“What?”
“Heh.. im.. im just thinking…” He hummed still looking at me contently
“Thinking…” I repeated going for another bit of ice cream to offer him. He took the bite in full, chewing the bits of cake and whipped cream before licking his mouth clean
“It’d.. it’d be kinda silly if we did this after every gig huh? I mean ha who has the time for that yknow? Get the jest Deadpool!” He laughed softly but I just looked at him puzzled
“Hmm? I never said that!” I frowned slightly, protesting the merc’s jab at himself. His eyes went wide at me. Like as if I just said something so blasphemous.
“What”
“What, What?” I snorted in response earning another big giddy grin from the merc. And so it was decided! From then on, we went on dates every time after Deadpool’s gigs. He seemed to really enjoy the relaxation. Of course we spent time together before and after any of our hero work, but physically going out together really made it so much more personal, and I loved it too.
