Kano could sometimes be a jerk, especially when he decided to catch him off guard with ridiculously personal questions.

But it was Valentine’s Day, and he should have been expecting as much from him, really. So it was his own fault that he was caught off guard by it.

“So, is there anyone you’re secretly crushing on?” Kano asked, eyes narrowed and the corners of his mouth curled up into a smirk as he leaned over the side of the couch. “There must be someone, Shintaro! I mean, you’re a healthy, young, non-aromantic male! You’ve got a variety of ladies around you! I mean, sure, one of them is your sister but that leaves… Oh, a medusa, an invisible girl, and a former program left! So, who will it be? Who’s the lucky lady that you’re going to try out your profound dating simulator knowledge on?”

Shintaro looked him over, and sighed as he stood up and produced a card from his back pocket. It was a little squished, and a little warm, but it was still good.

“Want to proofread it? I’m going to give it to them soon, so…” He said, and tossed the thing in the blond’s direction. (His blush must have been giving him away, but Kano didn’t seem to notice. His smile remained stagnant as he picked up the card.)

“Ew, were you sitting on this?” Kano snickered, holding the pathetic heart paper between his thumbs and index fingers. “That’s disgusting. I’m indirectly touching your butt right now.”

Instead of giving the lame comment any mind, Shintaro sat back down and waited, his eyes closed, for Kano to finish reading. Hands shaking, it was only a matter of moments before he heard the other gasp slightly, and crinkle the paper in what he assumed was a nervous manner.

“Really?” Kano asked, face red.

“Yeah.”

“Really?” 

“You were the one who asked…”

“We don’t have any blonde haired girls in our dan! Try again! Oh, unless you’re trying to play a joke. But if that’s the case, it’s really, really not funny to tease people like that! It, uh… does sound like you have a crush on this person, though… I have to admit, I’m almost a little jealous of the intensity of your feelings for them…” He trailed off, and Shintaro’s heart fluttered at the blond’s red face, scarlet ears. Kano looked absolutely flustered and nervous and embarrassed, and it was hands down, the best day of Shintaro’s life.

“It is you.”
