Hey! The books you mentioned in the post about losing your kindle should be fine! You'll be able to re-download them off of amazon for free seeing as you have already paid for them. I think you just need to search the book up or something and then click download to a new device. Hope this helps!
this is such practical advice that so undercuts the theatrics i strive for in every post on this regional side show of a blog
Hi! I saw you read the book everlast and was wondering what your opinion on the book is? I'm looking for a new read and this one is seeming pretty intriguing
I wrote my thoughts and it got rather long. So, first my conclusionand a more detailed description under the cut.
The book surpassed my, admittedly, low expectations. Untilabout the middle, I thought I would only keep it for the nice cover and thedecent story but the second half really picked up and I liked the ending. Iactually do want to read the second book. And I hope it will be better. Notbecause the first one was bad but because it is a first novel with some flawsdue to inexperience and I expect that the writing will mature with experience.I enjoyed it.
Normally I don’t write summaries but I had a bit of troublepiecing together the mythology so: a couple of hundred years ago, there were asorceress and an alchemist. I think they used to be friends. The sorceress wasimmortal and for some reason (I think there was an error in the book with thenames at that point which got me really confused, I think it was that an evillord had them captured and held prisoners), the alchemist did something whichresulted in the sorceress losing her immortality and every person’s life timewas locked in their blood. This life time could then be extracted simply bybleeding and it could then be locked in metal coins. There are coins for hours, days, weeks etc. When you drink/consume these coins (they dissolve in water),you get that time added to your own. This life time is now the currency and, asexpected, the wealthy live long while the poor have to trade in life time forfood and basic necessities.
The heroine of this story, Jules, used to live in the palaceof the area’s nobility, the Gerling family, with her father who worked as ablack smith. Due to some incident involving her and the two noble sons of thehouse Gerling as well as some time-twisting, they had to leave the palace andhave slowly dropped deeper into poverty. She is now 17, the younger of the twonoble sons is supposed to marry the princess (the adopted daughter of thequeen) and the palace is looking for servants. Of course she goes to the palacedespite her father’s stern warnings not to, to earn money (they get about aweek worth of life time for one day of work – sounds very intriguing). Oh, andthe queen has ruled for about 500 years, always drinking life time from hersubjects. With that, the story starts.
My opinion: I was a bit hesitant reading this book because Ido not like first-person view. But the cover was so pretty and the story didsound interesting. In the end, the first person view has not annoyed me allthat much. It was a bit slow in the beginning and altogether a bit “all-over-the-place”and confusing. I had some troubles getting the back story straight (sorceressand alchemist and immortality). But I put that down to it being Sara Holland’sfirst book. What I really liked is the twist and climax of the novel. Thereactually were several things I had not foreseen which really is a nice changefrom the usual.
Some of the critical voices I heard: somebody wrote thefirst few chapters were an info-dump. I did not get that impression and in factit took me quite a while to understand the world. I never felt like the authorbored me with world-building and world-describing. Also, I think it is a ratherdifficult concept Sara Holland thought of and there actually is a lot toexplain.
Also, some complained about the naivety of the maincharacter. She (of course) has a crush on one of the noble sons (the charming, nice one who is about to marry the princess). Okay, sometimes she was a bitoblivious but on the other hand, she is seventeen and I remember my crushes atseventeen. I was pretty blind too. And she has not lived in the palace for over10 years but been very poor. No wonder she has little idea of the scheming ofthe nobles. Baseline: yes, she is naive but I found it to be believable. Andcringe-worthy moments do happen when your are seventeen and crushing onsomebody (also when your are older).
Hey lovely, I voted to keep the same :) I get easily confused aha. Have a good day/night!

Wow, are you really anti-hook? No hate here, just wondering, as everyone's entitled to their own likings and not ^_^
sorta. i mean i don’t exactly hate him but i don’t exactly like him either, especially with how he acts around Emma, ya know? like, he has this tendency to be an attention seeker and he whines when he doesn’t get it, but when he does get it, he goes and hits people and then expects to be forgiven because he’s trying to be “better”. i mean, i understand if anyone reading this that actually does like Hook will be mad at me for saying that, but that’s just how i feel. it’s like what Robin said, just cause he was a reformed outlaw, doesn’t exactly mean he’d ever stop being an outlaw, and the same goes for Hook. he may be a reformed pirate, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll ever stop being a pirate.
