It might be because of the "name limit". When it came to naming Pokemon, there used to be a 10-letter limit, but in generation 6 it got raised to 12 letters. It might be the same for attacks: Catastropika has exactly 12 letters, while your suggestion of Pikatastrophe has 13 letters and thus exceeds the "name limit".
Stoked Sparksurfer, Extreme Evoboost, and Pulverizing Pancake are all above 15 characters.
