Did you know that your shoulder blades are not attached to your ribcage? Did you also know that they can move in 6 different directions? Upward and downward rotation, protraction and retraction and elevation and depression! They're very mobile indeed which is why it is important to be aware of how they move so we can stabilize them before we execute any exercise movements. The movement should be smooth; they should easily glide along the back of the ribcage. This is the 4th principle in Stott Pilates - shoulder mobility & stability. So the next time you do a squat, downward dog or a sit up, pay attention to where your shoulder blades are! How are they moving? Is it easy? Effortless? Is it rigid? #pilates #stottpilates #stottpilatesinstructor #pilatesprinciples #shouldermobility #pilateshasyourback #matwork #pilatesmat #jenzenpilates #jenzenwellness #befreebetruebeyou
