"THE HORSE RIDDING GIRL OF ST-PRIVAT-D’ALLIER" Saint-James Way - Camino de Santiago - Saint-Jacques de Compostelle Day 2 of my Camino took me from Bains to Monistrol-d’Allier (11.3km). It was still a fairly short walk. Due to the photos I was taking, I would pause regularly, trying to find a good subject, a good viewpoint. Thus the time it would take me to walk from one stage to the next and this partly explains why it took me 144 days.. Not all the pictures I took will make it into this album. I M doing some serious photo culling, as they say. "VIEW FROM NOTRE-DAME DE FRANCE" Saint-James Way - Camino de Santiago - Saint-Jacques de Compostelle Day 1 de my Camino was a short and eventless day during which I realized I wasn’t in the great shape I thought I was. At 7:30am I went to the mass in the cathedral, where the Archbishop held a mass for the pilgrims’ blessing. Then, after a leisurely breakfast, I was on my way. The first hill after Le Puy almost “killed” me. I decided to stop at a gite in Bains, about 14,5km away. Not a great start... The photo you see here, is that of a couple of families I met the morning after in Montbonnet (Bains). With their kids and donkeys they rented for a week or two, they were walking part of the Stevenson’s trail. Robert Louis Stevenson was in his late 20’s when he went walking with a donkey called Modestine in the Cévennes. Out of this journey Stevenson wrote one of his first book: “Travel with a donkey in the Cévennes” (1879).
