We are two different people. Perhaps it isn't challenging for you to obtain that sort of power but it certainly is for me. (Shrugs) It all depends on how you differentiate Gods from humans. So Izaya-san, what's the difference between the two, hm? That's not always the case. In Buddhism, all Gods respect and worship one another. Me, I worship myself to a certain extent. I wouldn't want to be a power-hungry narcissist now. Why do you ask? Aw, I was excited to hear about your pawns.
Another small laugh left him. "Perhaps. . It does require practice and discipline to obtain it." He paused to glance at her once again. "And a sharp eye, of course."
His eyes glistened, whether for the entertainment this girl was providing or her slight challenging questions. She was inquisitive, insightful... probably one of the cleverest woman to cross paths with him. "That, just as religion, is a matter of opinion." He turned back to the chess board, although didn't mess with it any longer, and let his eyes wander over the pieces. "However, I believe one becomes a God over humans when he can gain control. If one has control over all -- and by all, I mean everything -- situations, people, circumstances, etc. If he can manipulate anything to his wishes, on just a whim. That is a true God. One who reigns over all.""Ah -- that is true. Although, I believe that is a different type of worship all together. Buddhist are more equalist. They believe respect is worship and the type of worship I wish for is far more demanding respectful behavior and manners. So I don't believe that fits this topic well." "Simple, really. I wanted to know what type of person you are. It's an easy way to gather more information to get a perspective of you." He tilted his head her way, in order to give her a grin. Finding her comment about narcissism amusing. The informant laughed at her next comment. She sounded quite disappointed. "Why is that? I don't think my pawns are all too important. Their stories aren't always entertaining, some are quite boring, most."
You have something I don't. You have the power to see my blind spots. By stepping down and worshiping you I am able to learn from your actions and words. I don't believe I have given my throne entirely to you. Gods worship other Gods, after all. So how do you treat your worshipers and what do you do with your pawns? You are amazingly composed.
The informant chuckled delightfully from that statement. Yes, this human was definitely entertaining. "To be honest, that type of power isn't hard to gain." He said placing chess pieces in corresponding spots on the board. "I must admit, that's the first time I've heard someone speak of Gods that way." He told her with a quick glance before going back to what he was doing. " "Although, I must disagree with you. A God is a God because he rules over all. He has no need to worship another God. Not even Greek Gods did such a thing -- which is why there were bickering and fights." He explained, placing the Queen in her rightful place on the board. "Let me ask you... Do you worship yourself?" He inquired, pausing his ministrations to give her a mischievous glance. His scarlet eyes stayed on her as his thoughts jumbled in his head, trying to work out the correct wording for his next response. "That depends entirely on how devoted my worshipers are. And what I do with my pawns is not something I share." He told her with a wicked grin. "That is for my own personal knowledge and theirs."
He chuckled at her last statement. "When you have a personality such as mine, you tend to be composed a good majority of the time. There are few things that affect you."
"You are an interesting human" could be another lie, no? Adorable, yes. You can care if people worship you but those people do not affect me in any way. I care for my actions and the people of whom I hold dearly's actions. I doubt that I hold any of your worshiper's dearly simply because I do not know any of them. But I care mostly for myself because I am living for myself. Aah~ 'control,' a thing I don't have -- haa. Do you have any other forms of 'power,' even the tiniest bit of it?
A twisted grin pulled onto his face from the inquiry, she was definitely sharp. His shoulders hitched in a shrug, “It could be. Who’s to know?” His eyes narrowed at her, not enjoying the term she insisted on using. But he brushed that aside and continued on.
“You are your own God..” He stated to back up what she had told him. The views she held sounding similar to his. Although there were key differences. “So, you are a loyal follower of mine then, yes? Then let me ask you…” He started, turning towards her with a devious expression. “If you care mostly for yourself.. Why is it you worship me? Why make me the God of your world and step down from your own throne?”
He snickered a bit before turning back to the position he was in before, placing the chess piece back onto the board. “I do.” He informed her, his eyes shifting toward her as he began to rearrange the pieces on the board. “But those are to be kept for my knowledge only. Not all power is to be known outright. Some are more powerful if kept to one’s self.”
You look more like a sadist, though. I find it adorable how you think of yourself so highly. If I were you, I'd be like that too but... (Laughs) Haa, so amusing how you think of yourself as 'God.' I don't care if your pawns worship you - it has no affect on my life. Self-centered as this may sound, as long as I worship you, that is what matters to me and only me. I don't need to care about the rest. I understand. Ah, this sounds like a conversation on the subject of power~ What is power, Izaya?
“I’d like to think I’m the perfect mix of sadism and masochism, to be perfectly honest. Though, I suppose I do tend to lean towards the sadist side more often than most. Perhaps, my masochism is only for those special pawns to see.” He explained, leaning forward to pick up a knight off the chest board on the coffee table in front of them. Holding it up and twirling it between his fingers as he looked it over, continuing what he was saying.
“Adorable..? What a funny choice of wording.” He commented, tossing the piece up and catching it as he leaned back onto the couch again, repeating the action again. “You are an interesting human…” His gaze turned to her for a moment, scarlet eyes running over her expression. “And it is quite self-centered. But I’m curious as to know what makes you believe that.”
A chuckle fell from his lips as he held out the chess piece for her to take. “That’s a topic that can be taken into many different aspects of life. There’s many different forms of power and many different opinions on it. And I fear that if we continue down that path, it will take all night to discuss.” He paused. “But the simplest form of power, to me, is control. You can gain much from even a tiny bit of it.”
