Joining the throngs of Gen-Xers rocking it out to the Wolfgang Reunion Concert at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Barangay Lahug, Cebú City
I had met the members of Wolfgang briefly during my rockista incarnation in the 1990s, both at Club Dredd and the book launch of Bencab’s Rock Session at the Music Museum.
I was told by the old Cebúano rockers that the general Cebú fan-base were more into hard rock in the 1980s and 1990s, and they didn’t shine more mellow musicians such as the Eraserheads (well now the E-heads are now more popular to the Gen-Xer’s kids).
This was proven when the Cebúano knew all the lyrics to all their songs, mostly from the albums Semenelin(1996) and Wurm (1997). They even sang the lyrics of songs that hardly had any radio time in Manila. So obviously, the original members: Basti Artadi, Wolf Gemora and Manuel Legarda were wowed by the Cebúano reception.
I was also surprised that the crowd was able to fill up the Pacific Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel, which we would normally fill up during our graduation ceremonies of the Southwestern University PHINMA.
Well the old fans came out in droves, and some even dragged their kids to witness their parent rock out. And many of these fans rummaged through their baúl, to pull out their old band shirts from Nirvana to Guns N’ Rose. And for those who didn’t save their band shirts, went out and bought some new ones or just any black shirt would do. So the Waterfront lobby looked like a squadristi rally.
Anyway aside from the people watching, it was great to see that Basti, Wolf and Manuel were still in top for and belted out a fabulous show. ROCK ON!!!
