Club Dredd performance groupfie
Having a drunken blast while singing at Club Dredd in Quezón City (QC). Club Dredd opened in 1990 as Red Rocks in QC’s Barangay Laging Handa, and moved to the QC Cubao district in 1994 until its closure in 1998. The club was named after the dystopian comic book police character Judge Dredd which was created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra in 1977 for the British pulp “2000 AD”.
From 1994 to 1997, I was part of two bands that played in many gigs throughout Metro Manila as part of the band explosion in the Philippines that echoed the rise of Alternative Rock movement in the USA.
I was the lead singer for the bands of Usok and Etch-Us (formerly Maxtol), which were all comprised of graduates and students of the University of the Philippines (UP) Dilimán campus.
From singing, I would later move on to managing the Pinoy Rock legend, Joseph “Pepe” Smith (1947-2019), which I have detailed in my memoire: “Random Memories: Remembering Pepe” (https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10159490775046404&set=a.10159242840496404)
