Honestly ive just graduated at st andrews and theres loads of superstitions like that - oh if you step on the PH in the ground youll fail your exams etc

Liliana accidently having two ghost stories about her is so iconic

Sunny is sweet i really like her

The pendant now feeling heavy like her toara did, shes pulled between the two, both bearing an impossible weight on her

Her head and her heart. Her family and ellie. The tiara and the pendant

wow i really love lottie i have missed her.

it makes me very happy that ellie is also a september baby. and lottie as an august baby makes so much sense tbh.

lottie stop lying you can tell jamie if you aren’t okay. although automatically saying ‘yes of course’ is a big mood.

hey lottie maybe stop thinking about saskia it is clearly giving you a lot of anxiety and wow now i just want to hug her okay.

anyway this chapter is great, i love seeing how lottie acts as a princess, and jamie + the royal fam there to help her out. and as always, connie’s writing is amazing.

Chapter 1 - PIP Readathon

Oh my god I am so behind this already lmao so I’m going to try and keep up.

• Lottie is thinking about Saskia - poor her.

• I’d love to see this birthday party in a movie or something, it seems really cool. Also, Lottie is wearing a “traditional Maravish garb” and I’m rather curious about Maravish fashion trends lmao, do any artists want to draw it? Anyway I’m side tracking.

• The whole calling Lottie, “Eleanor Wolfson” is slightly strange to me. Since there is a friend of, “Lottie the Maravish Princess” who is supposedly called, “Ellie Wolf” it’s a bit obvious that something is up. Even Anastacia figured it out and I’m surprised many others didn’t. I’m just kind of nit picking though haha.

• Lmao the Lottie statue! Andddd Jamie’s laughing.

• It sounds really detailed though - this Sir Yanovski has d e d i c a t i o n. What an icon.

• “It looks just like me!”

• The whole thing is so funny lmao. That reminds me, what did they end up doing with the statue? Where did they up putting it?

• Anyway, what a fun chapter. It’s kinda hilarious lmao.

Guilt and homesickness. Shes just fully replaced her own family her friends and everything

Jamie and ellie jumping in to save the day and move on is wonderful and jamie is amazing

Hes got no clue what ellie promised lottie though. This poor boy has been and will go through so much.

I love love love this scene

We get to see them all actually interact as a family, Alexander being his usual grumpy self and matilde trying to be a source of light, but also i wonder if its usual for jamie to dine with them? Or if that only happens more recently as lottie has come?

Also omg how could i forget Saxons name im disappointed in myself help

I dont love that conch is portrayed as the super rich designer fashion forward expensive taste house

Also the fact that the gym is in conch is a lil strange, why wouldnt it be with the rest of the normal school buildings

Like yes dame bolter is head of the lancers and sport stuff

But what is a new house head got appointed? Then what

I love ellies banter with the other lancers it makes her feel more realistic outside of her relationships to lottie and jamie

I miss jacob. He was funny

I like seeing the similarities between ani and ellie as they try to help each other without actually talking

Its miscommunication but with a net positive

Them having a fight while fencing is so very Rory / Paris in their chilton era in gilmore girls

Ani snapping and having hinestly a mild anxiety attack about actually not hating saskia is just

Connie is insane for putting this as eloquently as she did. Because yeah. When you break up with someone but you have to see them again, what if you dont hate them?

I love that this is ellie realising for the forst time really how much she really does like lottie

And how once she notices her own feelings she suddenly is able to appreciate anis situation more, all of her actions.

If it were for lottie, ellie would do the same, shed do anything

Ani and ellie are both the masters of saskia and lottie technically, but their relationships are so much deeper than that

Because of that, ellie and eni can relate to each other so much more than almost anyone else

Love the use of a breaking news report as an exposition drop

Its really creative!

Honestly emelia is probably thinking she wishes she could throw something. So ellies not far off

Jamie is so very correct this is bad, but yay more vigilance stuff

I get not wanting to get ani involved but yeah surely theyd tell at least her dad???

Im really glad that she tells ollie everything. She needs this normal person perspective to tell her how insane this is

Hes so real for mentioning her mum

Again her crown being so heavy and weighing down is a wonderful metaphor, and lottie brushing away her mum as "not here" makes the whole theme of family feel that much more heavy and important. Shes losing herself

I also really like how this scene showcases her unstoppable-ness as something powerful yet destructive. The negative side of it

Then ollie saying she looks like her mum ugh i love his boy, hes trying

Princess in Practice - Chapter 4

Jamies gift still makes me sad even now, more so after the later books

I like that the fairytale references get darker throughout - now referencing the Telltale heart rather than cinderella, growing up with her

Hanna and Midori stay the best characters in the whole series fight me

These portraits in this hallway have such an amazing visual

The motto of the Maravish family again is so perfectly intuned to the themes we've already been introduced to

Shoutout to claude i guess scary man

To fail the family is an unforgivable act

Thats a bit much my dude

Lottie, YOU HAVE A CONSTANT DUTY WEIGHING YOU DOWN

To be honest tho. Jamies one makes sense. He'll have to prioritise Lottie in order to protect both girls.

For lottie its harder to wrap her head around

God this chapter feels long

Jamie calling her out for saying "yes your majesty" is lowkey hilarious and i love him

And again... his gift. Jamie makes me so sad. Not in a, im upset at him, but oh my god i cant wait for him to get away from here and have therapy.

But also, from his perspective, of course it would upset him. Hes not allowed to have a life outside of Ellie, and her gift is a reminder of what his life should have been

This is a bit of a sad start isnt it?

RWCH Readathon 2024: Day 18

Princess in Practice - Chapter 1

Back to the insanity of the real world consequences of portmans

I really like how much its clear that Lottie is uncomfortable by Saskia being in the basement

Like yeah thats wild

And the idea of keeping her identity secret by limiting photography is smart, but clearly is useless by book 3 - its really not even thought about passed this chapter and that makes me kind of sad

I know we dont know this yet and neither does anyone really, but if that tiara is in some of the sole surviving portraits of a mysterious runaway princess, I feel like at least one person at these wvents would recognise it

Like cmon you think none of those journalists and royal commentators didn't study art history or royal history???

Olga is an icon ngl

I like that jamie stands out by dressing simple

Jamie staying close to make sure nothing goes wrong makes so much sense

Oh not the statue oh my god

I really like our reintroduction to the king and queen. Their appearances match how they react to lottie too i think. The queen is welcoming and willing to play the part and to be honest also kind of takes in lottie. The king on the other hand has a sense of duty and treats lottie the same as jamie, as not much more than a means to protect ellie

I wanna find the note that connie made about how she imagined this art man furiously scribbling a sketch of lottie to make the statue but i dont remember where it was posted! I'll hunt for it and put it in a reblog if i can find it!

It must be really strange having someone else taking your childs place and trying to perform

I always picture the statue as being genuinely like 2 stories high but i feel like thats a bit much

Where is Ellie this whole time? Just in her room?

No because thats so so funny though. I wanna see art mans reaction when the real princess is revealed. Like this poor man, so much work and effort and it turns out its some girl from cornwall

Jamie also trying to hold it together really just makes this scene so incredible

I always forget how funny this scene is until i reread it but it really shows the wider consequences of lottie being a portman. Imagine if we in the real world found out that for example, Prince William didnt actually look like that and the man we all thought was him is actually just some kid he met at eton?
