What's my name? What's my name?
They heard it through every street and building across the city, the voice distorted through the echoes. Yet Wu and Garmadon both immediately recognised it. But.. it couldn't be, could it? She had disappeared nearly two decades ago now.
The replies echoed back, from everywhere yet nowhere, from deep inside the city itself, as if the city was the one calling back.
But it sounded so much like her, didn't it?
"Do you think...?" Wu didn't finish the sentence, only looking over at his brother.
The shouts echoed louder, the sense of dread spreading alongside the fear.
"I don't know," Garmadon replied, eyes up towards the sky, scanning, "Where is it even coming from anyways?"
The first voice seemed to distort even further, echoing and flickering and glitching. There, yet not there at all.
WHATS MY NAME? WHAT'S MY NAME?
KOKO KOKO KOKO KOKO KOKO KOKO KOKO
"I don't know," Wu echoed Garmadon, he too turning his eyes up towards the sky. Was it just him, or did the world seem to rip and flicker?
"Do... you see the world.. Ripping?" Wu almost whispered it out, eyes fixated on the thunder spreading above the city. In the corner of his eyes he saw Garmadon nod.
"Is it the thunder, do you think?"
say it louder SAY IT LoudER
"Perhaps we ought to gather the others."
You always think the world will rip with some.. crack, boom, anything. Or perhaps it's nothing. But now, it opened to the distorted echoes of a name unknown, of someone unknown. Yet, as the shouts exchanged to CAPTAIN KOKO CAPTAIN KOKO CAPTAIN KOKO, every single person knew.
It was the Ghost Pirate. The Lady of Death. The Children of Curses and Undead. Immortal.
(It scared even them, Wu and Garmadon, as old as they were, there was little to do against someone so infamous, so truly feared as this pirate of death.)
The bottom of the ship was the first the people of Ninjago City saw, the first the people of the Realm saw. A ghostly glow surrounded it, a faint wail and creaking echoing amongst the shouts. The sails was next, a flag with the ghost woman and the crossed katanas hissed. A red flag. Whoever the Ghost Pirate, Lady of Death, truly was, a red flag always meant there would be no mercy shown. Many people knew this, but many also did not. Wu and Garmadon are two of those who knew, had seen red flags of death before.
The shouts seemed louder now, figures soon seen on the creaking ship. The Captain, the person couldn't be anyone else then that, wore clothes of both gold and purple, of green and teal. Their eyes glowed, visible even from this distance, a pair of glowing neon wings spread out. This couldn't be who the two brothers thought (hoped) it'd be, could it?
The ship came closer to them, the screams still echoing with the wind, long brown hair flowing in it. They could see the Captain closer now, as they turned around and finally noticed the two brothers. (Had they looked around at the city below, they'd seen almost every street empty of people, only the ninja and the brave daring to look.)
The Captain leaned over to talk with someone else, long orange and black wings resting on their back, one half of the hair now completely green. Wu dared not hope, for this other person looked almost exactly like the student and son he'd lost so many years ago. Morro. He looked over at them too now, nodding at something the Captain said and then they, too, looked over.
Wu heard Garmadon gasp next to him, where they now both stood to face the Ghost Pirate, would fight to protect their city. It took a moment for Wu's mind to fully catch up, to see what has caused such a reaction from his brother, but when he did he found a similar gasp leaving himself. A glowing eye stared at them, purple horns on the side of their head and the myriad of tattoos covering their body glowing right with it. Teal, green, blue, purple, gold, red. Black goo flowed down their eyes like tears or blood, spilling down their cheeks and neck. The dread that had slowly been spreading made itself at home, its tendrils of fear spreading in veins.
"That. That can't be her."
The Captain moved their mouth, fangs glinting back at the two brothers, but they could not tell what words had left. If any at all.
They blinked, and the Captain was gone.
No sooner had the word left Garmadon, when the flutter of wings and jingling of jewellery reached them, a mere second before the Captain themselves appeared, so close the black goo spilled onto the two brothers and they could see the entire galaxy of realms inside the Captain's eye.
