Jim Kirk gets to San Francisco with nothing but the clothes on his back. It’s a long way from there to the Enterprise, but for the first time in his life, he’s not left alone. From day one, Christopher Pike is there to gently steer him towards the right path that will eventually lead to captaincy. As Jim takes his baby steps towards the sky, Chris finds he wants to stay near him just to watch him soar higher and higher.
However, as the years pass, it becomes clear that someone behind the scenes is patiently working towards a terrible goal that could bring war down upon the whole galaxy. Can a shrewd captain and a cadet with an attitude stop the danger, or will they lose everything before Jim could even reach the stars.
