Pitfire Artisan Pizza, 730 S Arroyo Pkwy, Pasadena, CA 91105, Score: 39/50
I’m a regular at Superba and it’s right next to Pitfire. The same people own both. One of the founders of Superba/Pitfire is a baker, so it seemed like Pitfire should make pretty good pizza. The pizza is cooked in a wood-fired oven.
Score: 39/50
Food: 4/5 – In addition to pizzas (one is perfect for two people), they have appetizers, pastas, salads, and desserts. They’ve got dessert pizza and soft serve. You can add toppings to their signature pizzas. The cheese pizza is $11.50. My brussels sprouts and bacon pizza had a soggy crust. I heard their salads and pastas are better?
Coffee: 4/5 – I don’t think they have coffee but you can get some at Superba. They have beer, wine, and sodas. Also, there’s the sangria that’s made in house.
Wi-fi: 4/5 – Free, unlimited. You can check in on Facebook or skip check-in to connect.
Ambiance: 5/5 – The space is huge, bright and open, with a covered outdoor patio (and fireplace), bar area, counters with stools, tables and booths too. The place has a modern industrial vibe with concrete floors, wood walls, wood chairs, wood beams and things hanging from the ceiling that look like satellites.
Noise: 4/5 – The music isn’t distracting. It’s pretty quiet inside.
Plugs: 0/5 – None
Parking: 5/5 – Very easy, they have their own parking lot
Comfort: 5/5 – New chairs but the stools and chairs aren’t padded. Spacious enough to spread out. High ceilings. Heat lamps in the patio area.
Bathroom: 4/5 – One per gender with multiple stalls
Art: 4/5 – Cute hand-drawn pizza
Tips: Order at the counter and get a number. They’l bring your food to you. They have some interesting pizzas, like the Bolognese pizza, burrata pizza and kale pizza. There’s a happy hour with specials too.
