[9/200] Fukuchiyama Castle (2020-03-08) Whilst built by the Yokoyama clan, it soon got captured by Akechi Mitsuhide. He played a major role in the Warring States period, as he was a direct general under the one of the big unifiers of Japan, Oda Nobunaga. However, the Akechi clan would later rebel against the powerful daimyo, leading to Nobunaga's tragic suicide at Honno-ji in 1582. For some reason, I really like this rebuilt castle. The museum is located next to the castle, so the interior looks a lot more authentic compared to some other renovated castles. Apparently it is also known for having the deepest castle well in Japan ("toyoiwa-no-i"). The current running Taiga historical drama series "Kirin ga Kuru" is focused on the life of Akechi Mitsuhide, so be sure to check that out it you have access to Japanese television!
