Our Queen Pixie of Ponyland has passed on.
Our dear Pixie cat, who has been Queen Kitty of our horse pasture for 20 years! 20 years! Passed away peacefully yesterday after a brief and swift decline.
20 years is a good long life for a cat. A year ago, at 19, we decided that she had more than earned a cozy retirement and we tried moving her into the house.
She liked the snuggles and she liked assisting us when we had chores and house projects, but as the months wore on it was clear that she wasn’t happy in the house.
She wanted back out to her horse pasture, her Queenly Domain.
So, as it became warm spring weather we brought her back out to ponyland where she could preside over us doing chores.
Just Saturday she was riding on my shoulder while I did chores, purring in my ear, tottering about the horse pasture on her stiff 20 year old legs. She was SO happy to be back at the horse pasture and I’m so glad we could give her that.
Then, Sunday morning she wasn’t moving around very well. She tried to totter after me, but she didn’t have much coordination anymore and she mostly would lay in the sun and watch me doing chores. She wasn’t in any distress, she’d just run out of go. 20 is so old for a cat!
So I called her friends and told them to come give her a snuggle because she was winding down. Thus began a day of constant snuggles for Pixie Kitty. She had visitors and snuggles all day long. Finally, I left her, cozy in her bed, to go have Mother’s Day dinner, and when I came back to feed evening pony supper Pixie had passed. I’m glad she had a quick and peaceful decline after a lovely day of snuggles in the sun and a really remarkable life. We’ve buried her in our pet cemetery.
We love you Miss Pix. You’ll live in our hearts forever ❤️ 😭 💔
