I’ve started a side side blog! It’s @med-godur-hesturin (með góður hesturin means “with the good horse”). It’s for all our SCA (society for creative anachronism) activities. Mostly I didn’t want to clutter this blog with reblogs of random medieval stuff 😂
Baby Peri’s first surcingle tonight was a total non event. He didn’t mind in the slightest.

Inaugural round pen use!! Woohoo!!
I'm so excited to finally have my own round pen! I've wanted one for 17 years!
Mr Mustang busted in this afternoon when it was nearly ready and declared that he was going to sleep on the nice sand thank you very much, when Spouse got back to the tractor later, Mr Mustang had no desire to leave haha. Very cute.
I also did Baby Peri's inaugural Join-Up, which is the reason why this round pen was built, but I was kinda busy with both my hands and all of my attention, so have this nice photo of Baby Peri and Pal grooming each other in lieu of a photo of Baby Peri prancing around the round pen. I'll get Spouse to take one sometime soon or something.

Sunday morning family trail ride where we accidentally picked up more friends. So, first it was just the three of us and then…
We ran into a friend! So we picked her up and added her to our ride. And then…
We picked up another friend and then there were five of us! Jack the pony thought this was super exciting and kept crowding Pal trying to get up to the other horses to say hi. Pal waved his hooves threateningly at Jack regularly. Pal is great at grumping at Jack without actually making contact, helping Spouse keep Jack in line. Ranch horses have skills! Anyway, everyone was well behaved and we all stayed safe, despite the added excitement of bonus horses on our ride!
in love with this Norwegian trotter named Express Go that’s won 7/7 races so far, is only 14.2hh, and has taught herself to duck down her head to give herself super speed (and lengthen her stride I guess)

I'm opening up pyrography commissions to go towards my wedding fund! Any subject matter goes; some things may be an extra fee.
I have more than a dozen sizes and price ranges, including live-edge rustic rounds, or tidier wooden canvases. I've also got some specialty woods, gourds, and jewelry boxes!

Ride number 123 for 2026:
It was about 30 degrees today, and I’m always grateful that our arena is shady this time of year. Supervisor feline played in the sand the whole time we rode, which was very cute. Mr Mustang warmed up to feeling quite good actually. Heat is a friend to arthritis I suppose.
This evening after dinner, Toddler and Spouse and I went out to feed the ponies together and then we went and pillaged the garden of raspberries. We ate fist full after fist full of raspberries, mouths too full to talk much, in the late summer evening, well after Toddler’s bedtime, and I thought, you know, these are the moments that dreams are made of. Stuffing ourselves silly with raspberries on a hot summer evening is exactly the kind of joy I dreamed of when I hoped for a family.

Went for an after dinner mental health walk with Mr. Mustang and we saw a barred owl! Cool!
On the northwest Belgian coast, there is a little known tradition: shrimp fishing on horseback. The activity consists of what its name describes: fishing shrimp on a horse. In the 15th century, shrimp fishing on horseback was still practised on the North Sea coasts in France, the Netherlands and even the South of England. This activity represented an extra revenue needed for the household. Nowadays there is only one place in which it is still ongoing: Oostduinkerke, a sub-municipality of the municipality of Koksijde.

I’ve fallen behind on the ride counter and the wind is out of my sails a bit because I’m overwhelmed with life stuff and sad that Mr Mustang isn’t able to dance with me like he used to be. But, I still have my beloved pony and he’s still happy to do basic stuff, so we carry on. I’m not sure what number rides these are. I think I’m up to 118 for 2026 and I’ll carry on from there, and here are some photos from our recent activities!
