This fandom baffles me in how much it like hates the Minotaur, like I have seen this fandom treat the like of the Titans & Giants who have done so much worst than him so well. Like people fixate on the fact that he took Camper necklaces as war trophies while glazing the murderous groomer that is Luke Castellan. I am seeing so many people writing deep metas on Medusa & rightfully bashing Poseidon & sometimes Athena for her hand in her torment, yet not one single person do I see mention the fact that the Minotaur is as much as a victim of the gods as she is. LIke the Minotaur is literally a darker mirror to Percy in a way that is not talked about. This is part of the reason I am so baffled by the fact that people are raging about the idea of monsters getting redeemed as if many of said monsters were made by the gods.

Can we take five seconds and talk about how Rick Riordan's writing is abelist?

From book 1 to... what are we on 25*?... every book has abelist rhetoric and very few people acknowledge it.

i’ve been thinking about this for a while and… it’s so frustrating that the pjo books don’t give much info on adhd beyond two symptoms (restlessness & harder to focus). i’ve loved reading books since i was a kid and retaining the knowledge from them, so the fact that pjo did such a poor job of depicting adhd that *i* literally had such a surface-level understanding of it until i did my own research (when i got older) is crazy.

learning that it’s very common for people with adhd to misplace things makes percy’s ballpoint pen sword unable to be misplaced tie in really well with his adhd, but that was never depicted as such. also, percy doesn’t get distracted much during convos or even consistently interrupt others to get his thoughts across before he loses them (or even to finish their sentence for them), which are also ways to depict adhd and how it can affect day-to-day interactions. sometimes i even forget percy canonically has adhd because of how poorly it’s depicted throughout the books…

also, don’t even get me started on the whole depiction of dyslexia…

I’ve been thinking abt Thalia Grace recently but more so her outfit. It’s kinda weird to me that they gave the actress a black shirt with a black leather jacket, a plaid jacket around her waist??? Bc that makes sense,skinny black jeans and combat boots. I think it was a miss opportunity to have the actress actually wear punk fashion so if I were on costume designs for the show this is how I would have styled Thalia Grace.

Unpopular Percy Jackson opinion: I’ve been kinda teetering back and forth on this opinion but I feel like this dude was overpowered af and the powerscaling is a bit all over the place

Like. I still can’t get over how he beat the god of war and combat in a match at age 12 with minimal training and didn’t even get seriously wounded. Maybe I’m wrong here, but even if they were near water that sounds kinda crazy

And then with Achlys, primordial goddess of misery and poison, the fact that he was able to almost kill her in her own domain and with her own poison is also just. I dunno, strange?

I understand that Percy should be strong as a child of one of the big 3, but dude is pulling feats that I would assume some of Poseidon’s godly children wouldn’t even be able to do. I love Percy dearly and I think he’s a great character, but some of this was a little wild looking back on it (my memory is also pretty shit, so if I made half of this up please call it out)

I agree in a way that that Percy was overpowered in a lot of ways, and I think Rick often prioritized introducing as many Greek Myth figures as possible that I think he didn’t really take alot of time to flesh out the fights or give Percy opponents he could reasonably handle.

It became more of a problem as the series went on, in my opinion, but I think his powers were more present as the books went on.

I would have loved to see more fights like the Medusa fight, where he is defeating monsters through strategy and using his surroundings, rather than defeating them using his powers.

what's your opinion on how rick riordan handled ww2 in the pjo books ? personally, i want to bash his head against a wall

Personally, I thought it was incredibly brain-dead and one of the, if not the, most insensitive crap he ever wrote. Writing a fictional war/battle is one thing, but watering down one of the most horrific and brutal conflicts in human history where millions of people died and still suffer the consequences from to a petty squabble between the demigod children of the big three is...a choice, to say the least.

He also did a very shoddy job on the American civil war, including naming the son of a slave after a literal slave owner (Thomas Jefferson), but that's a complaint for another time.
