before and after!
Did two little sessions, one last night and one this morning to teach the birds not to try and steal food that people are eating. They’re taking to it really well! The only behaviour I’m asking for is that their feet stay on the perch, they can do whatever they like, they can lean and reach to demonstrate that they would like some, the only thing they can’t do to earn a reward is fly off of the perch towards food.
Mia ended up taking the longest to figure it out. She is still trying to figure out how she can bend the rules (note her hanging upside down to get as close as she can without taking her feet off the perch). She understands the base concept, keep feet on the perch, which is all I’ve really asked for but is really trying her best to reach what she wants.
Eventually I may go further and really aim to reinforce a complete lack of interest in the food but I’m personally fine with this as an alternative to hanging off my face for a muffin crumb.
