So I've fallen back into the Professor Layton/Layton Brothers fandom, and can I just rant for a minute about HOW GOOD the characters are?! And how nice it is to have a main character with DID that's portrayed as unnervingly unpredictable but NOT evil?! And how each character grows accustomed to each personality as they spend more time with him, and treating them as different people with different memories!

My gosh, I can't wait for the manga to release.

Along with that, the reveal that Alfendi's supposed "evil" personality was the original personality; It's the same personality that got him his friends, coworkers, and his job in the first place! The calm, gentle personality that the characters are first introduced to only developed after he experienced a significant mental and physical trauma. Plus, the plot points surrounding the surfacing of his original personality isn't fear because of his cruelty (for the most part,) but because whatever caused Alfendi's original personality to surface after such heavy trauma would have to be bad, and they take it as a warning that they're about to have similar events occur that caused the more aggressive Alfendi to be hidden for so long.

The release of the LBMR manga motivated me to make some art for my Layton OMORI AU, starting with the protagonist himself : Al !

Al mostly lives in White Space, but once every two days, he comes out of his room to visit his siblings and his friends, and they all play together !

When fighting the enemies roaming around Al's world, he relies primarily on his gun. Rest assured, it's just a toy gun. It can't hurt him. (Can it... ?)

Apart from that, he relies on many kinds of abilities ; however, unlike his friends he can never get angry. It's weird, really. Each time someone tries to annoy him, he just blacks out for a few seconds, and stays neutral. Why could that be ?

He isn't that worried about it, though. He has more important things to think about, especially when his sister disappears, and the world starts becoming... weird.

What's happening ? Why are all these voices... telling him to wake up ?

"Placid prof" was created when Alfendi was shot by Keelan Makepeace. This was four years ago, when Alfendi was 25.

Going by the show's canon, Layton went missing when Alfendi was 18.

This means that "placid prof" has actually never met Hershel Layton in person.

All the talks of "My father wouldn't approve." etc are probably based on what he's heard about Layton, or what he imagines him to be like.

Or maybe, like Dahlia, he has dreams of his past life.

There's even a chance he has completely false memories about events that never happened.
