Bohemian Rhapsody - 4.0/5🐾⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Biopics can be tricky. I mean, if it’s the film “Alpha” I did for my first review ever that told the true life story of my first ancestor wolf dog - that’s an easy winner for me. But, if it’s taking the extraordinary life of a much beloved frontman like Freddie Mercury and condensing it into a 2 hour movie starring Mr. Robot…that isn’t necessarily an immediate sell. Luckily, from the first time you see @ramimalek with the teeth, the mustache and the tank top…he IS Freddie Mercury and then his performance, in nearly every scene, totally blows you away. As biopics go, this one is pretty standard…from the band’s origin, to recording their biggest hits, to touring the world and then inevitably imploding…there isn’t much that' not somewhat expected. The real thrill for Queen fans is how director @bryanjsinger not only pulls Freddie out of Rami so well it’s eerie, but how he treats the band’s music. It’s clear he’s a fan himself and listening to those epic songs boom out of a theater’s giant speakers is another great reason for buying your ticket. My only critique is that, for some strange reason, Freddie owned like a dozen cats and zero dogs, so be warned, you’ll have to sit through way too many feline-centric scenes. By the time the climactic Live Aid performance is happening you truly feel you’re watching a real Queen show and lamenting that their set and sadly, Freddie’s life are coming to an end. They do a really good job of paying tribute to him and how he passed without forcing us to actually watch him die, which this pup was thankful for. As Freddie once said, “I won’t be a rock star.
