First photo shows the slime housed in a clear, ball-shaped plastic container with a small blue sticker, outlined in black, on the top of the ball. Black-outlined white type reads “Uranus”. Planet Putty - The Reject Shop, $3 AUD.
There’s no online listing available for this item.
The Reject Shop has gotten in the Planet Putty branded slimes that have been featured here before, often by US-based stimmers, so of course I had to try one out for myself.
This is a seriously gorgeous slime. The pearlescent blue has a shimmery, mottled quality that catches the light when stretched, pulled and twisted, adding a visual stim element to the slime. It’s more brittle than homemade slimes but reasonably stretchy for a storebought slime, and while it has a slight glue-like odour, it isn’t too strong.
The first issue is that, despite the branding, it isn’t a putty. It’s stiffer than some storebought slimes--sort of between slime and a putty--but it is far too liquid to be a putty and, unlike putty, it leaves a slime-like watery residue on my hands. If you buy this, know that you’re buying slime, not a cheap off-brand Thinking Putty. It’s nothing like Thinking Putty.
The second issue is that the ball (planet-like) container the slime comes in is useless once it has been opened. The container comprises two half-spheres that clip together and the slime fills both completely. To return it to the container, I have to shape it into a ball inside one half-sphere and try to close the other over the top of the slime ball while not squeezing the slime out the sides of the container in the process. I’ve tried to do this so many times, getting nothing but slime oozing out the sides, to the point that I think it impossible for most stimmers. If this slime were actually putty, this would be doable, as putty holds its shape for much longer, but as a container for slime it is the worst container I have ever seen.
I store the slime now in a small clip-lid container and recommend that you have one ready to go if buying this slime.
I’m not sure that this is worth $3 AUD, being a slime and not a putty, but you get a decent amount and it is an extremely beautiful toy. Just make sure you have something else to store it in!
