so I remember reading a while back that part of the reason Venus is like it is, is because it doesn't have plate tectonics, its crust is just in one big piece, allowing pressure to build up and lots of big vulcanism yada yada yada

another thing is apparently the reason the Earth isn't like that is that early on in its development, after we got our moon but before life first formed, we got hit by a giant granite asteroid, much much bigger than the one that killed the dinosaurs, so big it cracked our crust breaking it into plates, but also floats on what we had which was mostly basalt

not that this should be seen as a suggestion for imminent action but like could we do that to Venus, find a really big granite asteroid, break some plates etc?

here's a question. just. purely hypothetical, could not happen IRL, but--

ignoring all other catastrophic effects, if the sun winked out of existence, how long would it take for Earth's atmosphere to cool to the point where the wildfires along the west coast of North America could no longer survive?

basically, is it possible to lower the ambient temperature to a point where a wood-fueled flame would go out, and would Earth's atmosphere liquify/freeze first?

(and if so, what kind of effect would THAT have on this nonsense? liquid oxygen is highly flammable but Earth's atmosphere is mostly nitrogen iirc. i imagine the oxygen would combust as it condenses?)

So I'm pretty wild about astronomy. I really want to be a planetary engineer, basically this is the kinda stuff I would be working with Terriforming whoot. Basically this talks about a program of people that would be moved to Mars 10 years from now. I really want to be apart of this... so badly.
