Just officially signed up to be a counselor in training at my favorite summer camp!! I've been going to this camp since I was 7 or 8, and I have so many great memories of it! the themed weeks, the tech stuff (it’s a technology/techno-tainment camp), the costume days, the amazing counselors and staff (one of them sent me my first tumblr ask, “what is your favorite kind of pizza?”), and just all around the fun times I had at the camp. Before I forget, the counselors and CITs get to choose fake names, like Keto, Teddy, Guffer, Gus, Zonova, etc. Mine is going to be Lloyd!
this of course, brings me to my main point of this post
the camp made daily videos, which i’m not gonna post here just because I don’t really have permission to from anyone, but here are some descriptions of the videos (mutuals can DM me if they want google drive links if I haven’t already shown them these 20 times):
- kid says “i’m gonna hit you so hard” to another kid while playing dodgeball, and then the video becomes shooting stars (this was 2 years ago when the meme was actually not bad). the other kid catches the ball once it’s thrown, and starts doing the “do, do do, do do do, do do”.
- Dodgeball war between 2 counselors and a bunch of campers (including me), with the song phoenix by fall out boy, because the main counselor in it was named Phoenix (he’s a really cool guy!). I was on the “good team” and we pretty much filmed the video for a whole week during our free time/network game time. my team won, but the true victory of the video was how amazing it turned out. seriously, if I could show one of these videos I would show this one.
- Parody of “Jump Up Super Star” from Super Mario odyssey (I'm actually getting that game tomorrow) about the camp. in this one, I was featured singing all star with Guffer, the camp director.
- a bunch of the counselors got together and wrote a song. they called it a “mumble rap”. I’m in this one a ton of times, but my favorite was from the time they just yelled out to all of us during lunch “does anyone have pizza???” and I happened to have pizza that day so I got to hold up my pizza for the video. and also the time where I wore my homestuck shirt for absolutely no reason.
- that one full week in 2013 where they just made parody music videos and a video on “how to survive a unicorn attack” (which I was in, dancing to what’s basically the theme song of this camp location, interlude) . some highlights of the parodys include:
- a parody of what’s going (the he-man version), about the camp (which I was in and can share a screenshot of my part in)
- a parody of i’ll make a man out of you (from Mulan), about the camp (be at camp)
- a parody of loathing (from wicked), about network game time (the time where we get to play video games, like minecraft and paint ball 2 (you think i’m joking but paint ball 2 is one of the most popular games at the camp))
- the one were we got asked what we wanted to be when we grew up and i said “when i grow up i want to be a pop-star” (big wyldstyle vibes from that now-)
- a parody of the old mentos commercials, where I was a “cool girl” while a guy did something stupid and mentos helped him not be stupid.
- the one were we had “irl lag” and started t posing and walking through walls
and then we have the fan art I made. the counselors were so nice that I started making fan art for them in 2017, and I made some last year too. here’s what I was able to dig up:
(2017)
(the rest of them have the name of the camp on them sorry)
okay yes, this is a really long post about the camp, but you have to understand how amazing it was. I made real friends there, friends I would never talk to again, but real friends. the first time someone told me about homestuck, it was at this camp. one time it was too hot to go outside and I convinced the whole camp to watch ninjago. and we did, and it was awesome. last year we made a t-pose wall while playing capture the flag. years ago there were kids making a club called the “poop nuggets”, who then got in trouble for the name, but still.
I won’t say the camp name here because personal reasons, but this is just me, rambling about my favorite summer camp I've ever been too, that i’ll now be a CIT at.
