Been trying to get back into witch designing with using minor planet names as the basis but genuinely cannot come up with what they would be the exact witches of. Here's what i got so far:

Ceres, something with grains

Pallas, wisdom-theme befitting with Athena, but also possibly with the giant Pallas, the giant?

Jupiter, not the witch of the planet, witch dealing with masculine themes, maybe magi wasn't the best person in the past

Juno, has themes of both marriage and pregnancy

Vesta, i have definitely settled on her being the witch of lighters

Astraea, idk she's the goddess of the constellation virgo that's something

Hebe, the witch of some specific alcoholic drink, like a cosmopolitan witch or something

Iris, rainbows ofc, but also the part of the eye as well?

Flora, either something with it counterparting fauna, or something with gut flora

Hygiea, witch of skincare lol? maybe a whole pharmacist witch

Terpsichore, was thinking modern things associated with what the muses are associated, so for Terpsichore's case, witch of breakdancing?

Calliope, something with epics, the acceptance speech witch lol?

Clio, something with history

Polyhymnia, something with hymns, televangelist witch?

Euterpe, something with flutes

Erato, something with romantic motifs, rhythm and blues? smooth jazz?

Thalia, wanted her to have a plant theme, because her name means flourishing. Could also do something with the fact that she's also a Charite

Melpomene, something with tragedy, shares Thalia's plant theme. Are ferns a tragedic thing? Otherwise something that could have wield a knife in some way. Melpomene supposedly loves murder

Urania, something with astronomy, like a telescope or some kind of planetarium witch

comment any ideas you may have for any of their witch types and i'll take it from there, whipping up something for them eventually.

Dwarf planet Eris is ‘squishier’ than expected

University of California, Santa Cruz Professor of Planetary Sciences Francis Nimmo recently co-authored a Science Advances paper about the internal structure of the dwarf planet Eris. Eris is about the size of Pluto but around 50% farther from the sun. The discovery of Eris in the Kuiper Belt beyond Neptune in 2005 prompted the debate that ultimately reclassified Pluto as a dwarf planet. It was an interest in Pluto that drew UC Santa Cruz researcher Francis Nimmo to study Eris. Nimmo was visiting Michael Brown—one of the discoverers of Eris—at the California Institute of Technology about six months ago and realized some of Brown’s new, unpublished data could help reveal information about the properties of Eris. The two worked on models for the next several months and published their results in a Science Advances paper. Two main pieces of information led to their results. The first important clue is that Eris and its moon, Dysnomia, always face the same way toward each other. The main, unexpected result of Nimmo and Brown’s model is that Eris is surprisingly dissipative, or “squishy”...

Ceres the Planetoid

Ceres is the largest of the asteroid objects that sit between Jupiter and Mars in our solar system. In 2015, the Dawn spacecraft visited and took these and many more images and data from the object, revealing a surprising geology and possible past at the outer edges of our solar system.

The most notable feature of Ceres was the single large crater with a bright white material within. This turned out to be salt, which may have been deposited on the surface after brine escaped from the centre.

The implication is, a salt water ocean may have existed within the planetoid, and other evidence (such as the bottom image of Ahuna Mons, a possible cryovolcano) certainly points towards water being a large component of the make up.

Additionally ammonia was found, and this is a smoking gun for the formation of this planetoid, as at it's current location, ammonia is unlikely to form, while much further out, it's found in abundance.

So it's likely that this proto-planet started off in life out beyond the orbit of Jupiter and Saturn, and during it's early life found itself flung inwards where it settled amongst the asteroids today.

My character Maryanne coming to relax and spend the afternoon a public park -- a strange and inexplicable park of planetoids floating above a grassy riverbed, the furthest and rockiest of which home to an observatory. She’s far too big to properly rest on any of them -- she could maybe hang off of the bigger ones at most -- but she seems content nonetheless.

This was a bit of an experiment with freehand perspective and composition for me, and while I think a few things still look off, I’m still pretty happy with how this came out.
