O is really into wordplay jokes. I like to make them up so they're at her level, and so far they've been hits. The easiest in French are along the following lines:

chau-1, chau-2, chau-3, chau-4, chau-5, chau-6, chau-7. Ha ha, chaussette! (sock)

Adapt and repeat.

This morning she was dilly-dallying, like always. It's becoming a really problem in that she's making no progress in that area. But it allowed me to come up with an à propos joke. I told her: "si tu as un fruit, tu as une pêche. Si tu as des fruits, tu as...?" (if you have a piece of fruit, you have a piece. If you have some you have...?). And she said "des pêches" ("peaches). To which I said "Dépêche-toi!" (Hurry up; 'hurry' sounds the same as "peaches"). She laughed so much. We had to replay the scene about 6 or 8 times because it was so funny and she wanted to know it by heart.

I'm probably one of the last people to realize this, but the name for Tamagachi finally makes sense! In Japanese, Tomodachi is the word for friend, and tamago is the word for egg. A friend in an egg. It's been a pun this whole time!
