Art Of The Day: "Sabareetik" 41cm x 122cm x 3cm Unframed Dimensions Variable 2018 - Stretched Cotton Canvas, Enamel, Emulsion, Spray Paint, Ceramic Fragment, Lid, Brooch, Acrylic Paint Tub, Small Mirror, Cotton String. What's the artwork about..?? "Sabareetik" is a fusion of the word from "Saree" & "Batik" fabrics. This is also to incorporate my very own heritage between the Javanese from Indonesia & the Indian from India. A mixed parentage. It juxtaposes the richness of Javanese & Indian heritage & culture. The marriage of these two cultures have been  a common sight in the precinct of Geylang Serai today. In the Early Settlement era, the Javanese & the Indian Traders formed the early migrants in Singapore which was formerly known as, "Temasek". Due to its geographical & strategic position, it has become a pulling factor for Traders from Java, India, Malaya, Arab & China to trade in Singapore. Thus, this led to the formation of Multi-Racial communities via inter-marriages. Now, Singapore has grown from an insignificant fishing village into a Metropolis. "Sabareetik '' conveys the message in preserving the values of multiculturalism for our future generation in the form of an abstraction. It depicts unity in diversity in our society. A dream city where all the differences unify as one. Thus, bridging us together as One Singapore.
