Aha thank you! This gave me a bit of a much-needed boost today but I gotta tell you, it’s a hell of a job to pick my top 5.
But, in chronological order, my current favourites are:
Etched with Tears - Christine returns to Erik earlier than she was supposed to, and they are together for five months before his death. Afterwards, she must try to put herself back together, and deal with some unexpected news. Also starring Nadir, Darius, Raoul, and Sorelli. (Kay!verse AU)
At the time it was the biggest thing I’d written in years and it took me ages and was hella daunting, but I was just really happy with it in the end. It was surprisingly fulfilling, and very cleansing after reading Kay. Plus I’m still enthralled by that ‘verse because this is an edition of the characters that I’ve become really attached to. I would love for it to get some more love.
Vigil - In Persia, Nadir tends to a gravely injured Erik, and remembers and worries and prays. Erik drifts caught between the worlds of waking and unconsciousness. (Pharoga)
I started it on a whim, but writing it was actually surprisingly easy. Plus I got to experiment a bit with style, and I’m just overall really happy with how it turned out and how it was received. It was a very artistic experience and I love it
Wraiths of Wandering - France 1917. Christine de Chagny is in Paris with her husband and younger children. When the city falls still, she hears the distant rumble of the Front. Her firstborn, Erik "Konstin" Daaé, is a Commandant in the French Army, serving alongside his dear friend Antoine. In the wake of shellfire and bullets, there is so much love and too much pain, and a dark shadow with glowing eyes.
This was supposed to be short. It was supposed to be maybe only 30k words tops. Then before I knew it I’d been at it 6 months and it was more than 100k. The whole plot and everything was supposed to be way different. It’s much gayer than I expected. Writing it was like an alcoholic fever dream and sometimes I’m still shocked that I finished it. It was just an amazing time in my life, and I love it and I’m endlessly proud of it.
Sainte Nuit - Erik has been dead for more than a year, and this is the first Christmas Eve that Christine has with her baby son.
It’s set only 9 months after Etched, and it’s only a short little window into one night, but I love it dearly. It’s just a sweet little thing with a touch of sadness, and I was kinda surprised at how well it was received.
Running Through the Rain - Western AU. Fahim is a lawman, and Erik an outlaw, but somehow bringing him to justice becomes so much more. A tale of love, friendship, scrapes and adventures.
At the moment this has wandered so far from where I imagined it would be, but it’ll soon be back on track and full of Pharoga. I just. need. to finish. this arc. But if I write all the things I plan to write for it, it will end up a good bit longer than Wraiths. But it was literally only supposed to a short little romantic jaunt, maybe 20 chapters tops, and then it just. got angsty and way more gay than even I had anticipated. But the exceeding amounts of gay are (I expect) making a comeback sometime in the next 5-10 chapters. I swear this fic is gonna haunt me
