To The Casual Taylor Swift Fans
maybe you heard when the story broke, maybe you didn’t, or maybe you didn’t understand and didn’t care enough to look into it (totally understandable) either way, on June 30th Taylor Swift made this post about the loss of her masters, Scooter Braun, and how he caused Taylor much pain and manipulated her and many others. but i won’t go into all of that (if you have questions feel free to ask tho)
Because Scooter Braun - a horrible, despicable virus in the music industry - now owns Taylor’s masters, he now makes a hefty profit off of them. specifically, new purchases and streams from Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music. This applies to Taylor’s Reputation album and any album/songs that came before.
and it isn’t about the money. it’s about owning the art you make and the fact that every artist has this right and deserves for it to be excerised - as well as the fact that many many young artists are taken advantage of like this at every record company across the world.
maybe you don’t care. if you’ve kept reading this far then fine whatever you don’t care. but if you do, here’s how you can help.
Stop streaming her music on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music. New streams give the piece of shit razor scooter bronchitis the money he’s trying to scam his way into. Remember, anything that’s come out after Reputation can be streamed on any of these services. So Lover and all new albums. stopping the streaming may not make a huge difference financially but when Taylor drops thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of monthly streamers, a statement will be made.
Listen on iTunes or CDs. if you’ve already purchased music on iTunes/CDs that’s great! you can definitely listen on those! iTunes meaning it’s in your library and you paid actual money for those songs. If you have CDs you can upload those into iTunes as well!
illegally download the music. if you don’t have CDs or purchases on iTunes no worries! i, along with many other TS accounts here on tumblr, have a link to Taylor’s entire discography (w a few exceptions). message me if you want it!
