Had to have the “I don’t live my life to please men” talk with my mom again today.

We were talking to my little brother about wearing shorts (he doesn’t like to because he doesn’t like his leg hair). I told him “Dad wears shorts; he doesn’t have any issues with it.” He’s so intelligent and he knows what he wants, because he looked at me and said “Dad and I are different. I don’t want to show my leg hair.” My heart. I can’t believe I was trying to get him to do something he didn’t want to do; something so trivial to me, but a Big Deal™️ to him. Something that happened to me so much when I was his age.

I said, “You’re right, Nathan. I understand. I don’t like to shave my legs, but most girls do. It’s okay to not want to do something that other people do.” And y’ALL. MY MOTHER. HAD THE OVARIES TO SAY “And that’s your thing; it’s just not attractive to men.”

Like, way to derail a very constructive conversation with my IMPRESSIONABLE FIFTEEN YEAR OLD BROTHER by saying that he shouldn’t like girls that don’t shave.

So I looked at her, like, “I’m attractive to me, isn’t that enough?” She didn’t have words.

TL;DR My mother tried to use a teaching moment between me and my brother to tell me that what I do with my body is unattractive to men. I woke her ass up.

7 ways to please your man is one of the most ridiculous thing on the planet. Why would you want to be in a relationship that you have to be treated like a slave. Making you feel like you are not important that you have to have food on the table even if you are on your death bed. Even though it was the social norm back then I still do not understand why would you put yourself in a situation that you are not happy in. Why would you want to be treated like crap in a relationship? That is a unhealthy way of living. 

If I got to hear you complain about work, then I will be expecting you to be wanting to hear how my day has went. That would drive me up the wall with telling how to live my life and that my spouse is the boss of me. This would not go smoothly in today’s culture and not with me either.

Why do men always say come get YOUR child. They act like they did not put the other 50% into making them. It is both y’alls child, both of you should be taking responsibility of the child. It should not be just the women taking care of the child when she has a capable man setting in the chair in the living room watching the game. A relationship should be 50/50 nothing less or above. Show respect is how you get respect in a relationship or in general.
