FBX
Autodesk
Autodesk
fbx
fbx
.
Gif
FBX
fbx
fbx
Microsoft 3D Viewer - V7.2506.10022.0
3DLike - 3D Model Viewer
QuickTime 7
fbx
QuickTime 7

When the FBX format landed in the hands of a capable company like Autodesk, I breathed a sigh of relief. I thought to myself, "Finally, all the shortcomings and inconsistencies of this format will be over!" A format with the potential to become the bridge between all 3D software.
.
But, what a vain hope! Because from 2006 until now, in 2025, it's the same old story. Either Autodesk isn't doing enough, or other companies aren't really willing to cooperate effectively with them.
.
I don't know what it is, but I'm really craving a way to export in FBX format and be able to open it without issues in other software or dedicated viewers.
.
I'll skip listing all the features of the FBX format and just mention the one relevant to this post: its ability to play an animation sequence on a loop, just like a GIF.
.
When you make a GIF, the viewer is forced to see only your perspective—total dictatorship!
But when you create an FBX,you give them the freedom to look at your work from all angles, scrub back and forth, pause on a single frame, and even, if they are creators themselves, modify your creation in 3D software. Yes, total free will within the confines of the character you created.
.
This kind of freedom for the viewer is only possible with 3D formats, and the most universal among software is FBX.
Even in virtual reality, with recorded (not live) video format, your freedom depends on the number of cameras placed in the scene. But with a 3D object, everything changes, and the freedom becomes infinite.
This is why browsing Google Maps was more limited when it used spherical photos of routes and cities, compared to now that it's started to 3D-model locations.
.
I've tried dozens of free FBX viewers for Windows and Android. Each has its flaws. But among all of them, the best and least problematic ones that also handle animation are:
.
· For Windows: Microsoft 3D Viewer - V7.2506.10022.0
· For Android: 3DLike - 3D Model Viewer
.
Interestingly, QuickTime 7 has a plugin that, after installation, allows you to view FBX files. It's not very powerful or smooth, but due to its small size and easy installation, it's worth a try. This is yet another reason to realize what a capable player QuickTime 7 is, but its developers are stubborn.
.
Yes, I know, it all boils down to the format wars between companies.
I continue to make music. A new year has arrived. My new cosmic cycle follows the phases of the sun. The Earth has revolved around the sun. And a new cycle. Music for me is magic. And it's practice and technique. You have to constantly practice. True, for now I'm still a sorcerer's apprentice. I'm just learning. And making progress. By my standards. This makes me very happy.
Now my music studies have become more diverse. I've focused on gothic rock and space rock genres for bass guitar and electric guitar. And I've expanded the compositions I'm learning.
This space rock genre is Hawkwind. Their early work. Space is Deep, Master of Universe, PSchedelical Warlord, Down through the night. For example. These are all compositions of the same type. The sound is noisy. Like heavy metal. But lyrically, there's something about space and fantasy. Noisy sound. This is important. It helps hide the flaws in the playing. And the monotony of the sound. And how could I forget, Moonlum. I really love the moon. It's artistic and important to me.
Gothic rock is the Cure, Siouxsie, Fields of Nephelim, and Jesus and Mary Chain. The Cure's "Friday I Am in Love" is a song I adore. It's so light-sounding. A little melancholy. And there's a bit of joy in it, too. I liked the sound of "Snow in Summer." I listened to that song a long time ago, and I really liked it. Field of Nephelim – MoonChild. There should be some typical gothic rock strumming in there somewhere. It's a musical technique. And Jesus and Mary Chain – April Skies. Light playing, like spring rain and sunshine. I really like the sound.
Synthesizer. I've returned to it. And I'm still practicing. Beginner level. There are even a couple of chords and melodies from the band Laskoviy Mai. Very good music. And I'd be happy to read a book in "Music." I've also started learning a little guitar theory. It's plucking the strings, a guitar playing technique. I'm also learning where the notes are on the guitar fretboard. I've already mastered 14 chords on the synthesizer.
And that's not all. Yes, I practice regularly. I'm continuing. There's progress. That's the main thing. I've also started trying connecting my instruments to the computer on weekends. Through an external sound card. So I can plug in and play sound. It sounds great. I'm getting ready for the next step. This connection. And playing for real. With sound.
I'm still playing on an unplugged instrument. I'll also need to master a basic music recording program. To create a standard sound. And be able to record it. For example. I'm thinking about looking at LMMS, a free sound recording program I'm already familiar with. And something new, Luna. I'm a sleepwalker after all.
Things are moving forward. I'm already preparing for the next step - trying to play something on my instruments using an external sound card. A computer and recording software. I already have the bare minimum of equipment. It's great now, I can buy everything used and put together my own recording setup. My sound card is a Behringer U Phoria UM-2. It's black and compact. It has a guitar jack and a microphone. It also has a headphone jack. You can listen to your music through the headphones. That's what I do.
My headphones are large, black, and multimedia-quality. SVEN AP-860MW. They look beautiful. And this is my starter kit for music recording. I already installed the ASIO4ALL plugin. And everything has become clearer now. I plug it in and check the sound on weekends.
So far, I've even tried a DAW called LMMS. From there, I've learned a bit about how a MIDI keyboard works. I'm getting ready to play with sound. Or even try my first attempt at creating something. Basically, I have everything I need. I'm busy. Tons of notes and headphones!
Dima Link is making retro videogames, apps, a little of music, write stories, and some retro more.
My favorite phone charger stopped working and I’ve really been listening to a lot of Muse lately. These two resulted in me at three am taking out and reinserting my charger while screaming “plug in baby” very loudly.
