Poppin And Jupa RPG Concept
If you remember last week I posted a mock up of an event editor. I have several RPG ideas in mind, but the one I’ve been thinking on-off about the past year has involved my characters, ladybug Poppin and scarecrow Jupa. I’ve been making mock ups before, and I’ve mentioned the RPG offhand as well, but I wanted to get some of it visualized since it’s been on my mind a lot.
The concept is inspired by Megaman Battle Network and Smash Bros. You start with a card phase, choosing from a selection from a larger deck, and splitting them between Poppin and Jupa. In battle you activate the cards, their range/effect/damage dependent on the card type.
As you hit enemies you knock them into the air, and they build up more height each hit until you knock them off screen. Juggling them leads to bonuses and some combos can knock them off quickly. However they can also hurt PnJ during this phase, and timing the cards so they interrupt the attacks will be important.
You can also switch between the two, though there is a cool down from how often you can do it. This will allow you to control cards better and keep one character from taking too much damage. After enough time passes the attack phase ends and you select a new hand of cards.
There’s a ton more to it but that’s the basics of the battle system, I want to get to it some day way down the line, and I appreciate any comments for now, since I’ll continue brainstorming it during downtime.
