Initially a Great Show but Eventually Nothing New Anymore
Before getting into this drama, I saw a comment somewhere about how unlike other romance dramas, this one actually starts out with the main leads already in a relationship. In other words, there was no bullshit such as other love interests, possible home wreckers or the oh-so-dreadful miscommunication. At the beginning, I was really enjoying the show because true enough, there was no such bullshit. When someone pined after Leo, both Leo and Fiat just outright tell them to get lost because they only love each other. As much as that move (being vocal and honest about their feelings) is not original (and should really be normalised), it's relatively refreshing to see it happen in romance dramas. Unfortunately, nearing the last couple of episodes, Don't Say No just took the stereotypical road. There were unnecessary "love interests", Punn's tragic attempt at being a home wrecker and...the classic overused move of NO COMMUNICATION. Miscommunication is one thing I hate, no communication is another thing I detest. I went from binging each episode then their reaction videos in the same day to watching the same episode for a few days. I am very happy Leo and Fiat still got their deserved happy ending but the drama in the last few episodes was so unnecessary!
Also, can we talk about the fact that Leo is a Political Science student and yet he did not know how to play with despicable politics? Like come on! How can I actually believe he was an amateur in dealing with idiots such as Punn and King? Furthermore, wasn't Leo's character determined in TharnType 2: 7 Years of Love already? I remember it was stated that Leo's scary in the drama so why was Don't Say No's version of Leo so...not the way it was characterised initially? To all writers, please remember continuity, it makes a story beautifully smooth.
Moving on! Personally, and I do mean in my own honest opinion, the only reason I enjoyed the end of Don't Say No was thanks to Leon and Pobphan. I might be the only person on the Internet who actually liked the way this relationship turned out but I can explain why I really liked it. I understand this drama is completely fictional but sometimes, when you see so many happy endings in such perfect relationships, it can get pretty tiring. What happened between Leon and Pob was so realistic and I bet, it's quite relatable for some ex-couples too. I won't lie, I would have liked for them to have a happy ending at the end of Don't Say No but I don't hate the way they ended their relationship too. The kind of relationship Leon and Pob had? That's actually a healthy and mature relationship, and I admire the amount of respect they had for each other. I do believe the next series that comes out in this "world" is going to be Leon and Pob's story so lets all not be so sad at how they ended, shall we?
Rating: ★★★☆☆
