Drop the Not! Submissions Now Open

Hey all, submissions for Drop the Not! ARE NOW OPEN! You will have three weeks (until 4 April) to submit your not!fics, but authors can start claiming them in one week (21 March), so if you've got them ready be sure to submit them early.

For those of you who are new or aren't familiar with the challenge, Drop the Not! is a multi-fandom fanwork challenge where authors create written fanworks that are prompted or inspired by oral not!fic. An oral not!fic is a type of podfic not based on existing text, such as a fic. It is often improvisational or conversational in tone. This challenge follows the idea of reverse big bangs and prompt communities, but puts a unique spin on things. Here's how it works:

Oral not!ficcers submit their prompts or inspiration in the form of oral!not fic, and writers claim individual oral not!fics and create a story inspired by the not!fic. The claiming period happens over three weeks, and then writers have five weeks to write a minimum of 1k based on or inspired by the not!fic. In some cases, the oral not!fic may be very detailed and follow specific plot lines with specific characters, and in some cases the oral not!fic may be more general, similar to the "I wish someone would write me a fic where..." prompts on Tumblr.

Not!fic can be as detailed or general as the creator likes, but we do ask that writers clearly honour the spirit of the not!fic to the best of their ability. This means that things like fandom, characters, and setting should be similar. We don't have a say in how writers are inspired or how they take the prompt, and the work an author produces may be very similar or radically different from the podfic they received. That’s part of the joy!

All you have to do is come up with the idea or prompt, record it however you want (I record mine on my phone, so it can be super informal!) then post and see who claims it! Remixapod is a multi-fandom remix challenge where creators make multiformat fanworks that are remixes of, or inspired by, podfic and audio fanworks

Pod_Together 2020 Sign-Ups Are Open!

pod_together is a multifandom, multimedia challenge where writers and podficcers create together—the writer creating text specifically intended for audio, and the podficcer creating the audio.

Check out the Rules here and the FAQ here. Sign-ups for those looking to be matched into a partnership are here! Group sign-ups will open May 30th, and all sign-ups close on Saturday June 6th. The sign-ups are hosted through Dreamwidth, but you don’t need a Dreamwidth account in order to sign-up or participate.

This is our 10th year running this challenge, and participants usually have a ton of fun and create amazing stuff, with everything from the typical style of fannish stories to submissions with filk, poetry, multiple POVs, massive multi-voice collaborations, immersive soundscapes, computer voices, sound effects, audio-only, multimedia integration, and multiple languages. You can check out all the works from previous years of pod_together here.

Fandom is a Potluck Dinner

Hello friends!

We’ve been inspired to invite all of you to a Star Trek Fandom Potluck Dinner. 

The aim of the challenge will be to create a piece of fanwork that is food or drink themed, and based within the realms of the Star Trek universe.

If you’re interested in joining in on our potluck, the instructions are below:

1. Pick a type of food or drink, a meal time or a place where nourishment is served/prepared.  Create a fanwork around that place/event/object. It can be anything you like, for example, fanfic/gifs/fanvid/artworks/poetry/podfic.

The only constraints are that it needs to be set within Star Trek (any series), and it must follow the theme of food/drink.

Message us if you have any questions!

2. Pick a publishing date in the last fortnight of July (20th July – 2nd August). This will be the due date for your submission. Multiple works can be hosted on the same day if necessary.

3. Pick up a Star Trek fandom, or a mash-up of ST fandoms. Please do not submit crossovers with non-Star-Trek fandoms.

4. Message this blog with your chosen date, the Star Trek fandom(s) you’ve picked, and the type of fanwork you’ll be producing.

5. Message this blog for any questions / changes etc.

6. Post your delicious fanwork on your chosen date.

7. Message this blog with the details of where your fanwork is posted, and tag your Tumblr post with #fandompotluck

8. If posting on AO3, add your fanwork to the Star Trek Fandom Potluck Collection.

9. Follow this blog for updates.

Podfic Polygons is a multi-fandom podfic challenge where groups of three, four, or five (aka triangles, squares, and pentagons) build podfics step by step with each podficcer adding on an element.

You can signup as an individual to be matched into a group here. Or you can signup as a complete group here. The signups are run through dreamwidth, but do not require an account.

Rules and Requirements

Podficcers

Your mission is to record an audio work for a fic with a minimum of 10,000 words.

You may produce as many podfics for the challenge as you wish.

You may collaborate with other podficcers for the challenge, but we would appreciate it if all co-collaborators signed up here so we have everyone's contact information in case we need it.

You must be approximately 50% complete by the art request deadline to qualify for official art match-ups.

Cover art is NOT MANDATORY. We organize match-ups through the community for people who are do not wish to make their own, but if you are not interested in or do not qualify for the official art match-ups, feel free to do what suits you best.

Your mission is to claim the podfic of your choice and create a minimum of one work of cover art.

You may claim one podfic the first week after art claims open.

You may claim as many additional podfics as you wish after the first week of art claims.
