One is a promise of rest and peace. It brings with it beauty and also the beast.

The other starts with quiet and solitude. It brings with it new light to turn the tide.

Educate Yourself

Educate yourself on other cultures.

Educate yourself on the difference between the Asian ethnicities.

Educate yourself on not letting your racial bias get in the way of growing.

Educate yourself on how to educate others.

Educate yourself on how to be an ear or shoulder in this troubling time.

Educate yourself on the difference between cultural appreciation and appropriation.

Educate yourself on the proper way to lend a shoulder or ear to your friend who is a person of color.

Educate yourself on the difference between ethnicities within different cultures.

Educate yourself on all the facts of the case before you jump to conclusions.

Yeah please please please educate yourself with everything going on. Don't forget to get all of the facts before you voice your opinion because there will always be someone out there who might know more on the subject than you.

Please educate yourself on other cultures and do not forget...

I grew up in an environment where

Boys made fun of your weight

Girls doing the same.

Where

Boys catcall you with a smirk

Girls chastising when you complain.

Where

Boys joined along as

Girls preyed on your differences.

Where

Boys laughed at your too dark skin

Girls giggling.

Where

Boys criticise you for your lack of modesty

Girls ignoring your insistence that you "weren't ready"

Where

Boys teased you and thought it was funny

Girls laughed at your stupidity

Where

Boys judging you simply because you were too smart

Girls' envy keeping them silent.

I grew up thinking it was normal,

Thinking that everyone is regarded as such.

Perhaps everyone is,

Perhaps life is just as bad,

But there was a silver in every lining,

A smile after every frown.

There is still hope,

What is This Nameless Fear

What is this nameless fear, this dread, that holds me in waking paralysis? An incubus lurking in my shadow, a nightmare just out of sight, it seems to whisper of a coming calamity: societal insanity raining down inane judgements on my head. Some unknown jury and executioner sharpen their knives and axes, licking blood off their teeth in expectation of tasting my own. If I stay silent, I will drown, drawn under into their current, always wary of being hooked, netted, harpooned and pulled forth, writhing. If I speak, and do not lie, then I will burn in the pyre of their eyes, their screams, their calumnies. And if I lie—No. I will not lie. And so, I choose to burn, in blinding flames that cast out the darkness in their minds. If this dread is my doom, then I will turn to face it, name it, and fear no more.

Let tomorrow be a genesis
