Fredrick Goddard Tuckerman- the “Poet” for which Poet’s Seat Tower in Greenfield, MA is named. . . A contemporary of Emily Dickinson, Tuckerman only published one book of poems during his life (called “Poems”) The book was poorly received- in part because Tuckerman sent it out unsolicited. Only Nathaniel Hawthorne recognized it’s true potential. Tuckerman’s poetry wouldn’t be celebrated until after his death- with one of his most noteworthy poems “Cricket” not published until well into the 20th Century. . . Poet’s Seat Tower sits on a high spot above Greenfield, Massachusetts with a commanding view of the surrounding countryside.
