They meet in a hotel because both johnnys tennis team and readers soccer team are staying in the same hotel for their competitions. They went to see each others games after bonding over sneaking into the hotel pool at night and then getting caught which lead to them getting ice cream. They are both really competitive so almost everything between them is a challenge. Johnny teaches reader how to play tennis whiles reader teaches Johnny soccer, reader also successfully tackles him down a few times.

tennis player!johnny : sometimes when you’re playing soccer with johnny and he’s loosing so badly, he sweeps you up into his arms and scores at least two goals whilst you’re writing around.
tennis player!johnny : loves to beat you at anything and everything that he possibly can, but will never not be pissed when another guy beats you at something.
tennis player!johnny : gets super sensitive after loosing a tennis game and always needs just that much more kindness afterwards, so you always let him win for the rest of that day.
tennis player!johnny : you guys always give each other tips on how to get better at your game, no matter how mad you were at one and other.
tennis player!johnny : sometimes just picks up your soccer ball halfway through the game when he’s loosing and runs around with it as you chase him, just to annoy you.
tennis player!johnny : takes his shirt off mid-game, all the time, just to throw you off your game, then proceeds to make fun of you for the rest of your match.
tennis player!johnny : races you to everything, breakfast at the hotel, lunch, dinner, watching your own pre-game warm ups.
