I'm a little late to the party, but I thought I'd reply to this! It's not too terribly interesting;;;
Tara is simply my PokéSona, but with a few traits taken out or exaggerated. I've been using her to represent myself in drawings (since I'm not too good at people) for as long as I can remember, I turned her into her own character a couple years ago. Tara is short for Nachtara, which is simply the German name for Umbreon
I'm not entirely sure how Trix got in there, but he came up as just kind of an opposite to Tara. He hasn't changed much, but recently I finally figured out his whole background and stuff. I wish I remember how I came up with his name;;
Captain is what I always name my first male Jolteon in-game and eventually he became a character. When I was figuring out Tara and Trix's parents, I simply used Captain because I couldn't think of any other names;;
Belle was originally going to be a plot device in the first version of my fanfic involving these guys. Like Trix, she was created as an opposite to Tara to create drama since I'm bad at plot;;;
I bet you think there is an elaborate backstory. And you would be wrong.
Lucian is a character that happened in the spur of a moment. My friends had made a few characters and we normally talked about them like parents do their babies. So when they announced their awesome characters. I was like 'okay brain, give me something.'
So I slowly made a Toxicroak character. But why Toxicroak? I had never like Toxicroak before. I always thought them weird and stupid looking. LOL But why now? I think it was because I had used all my favorite Pokemons for my other characters that I role-played with and I wanted to try something new.
All the way back in like... August of last year I think, a friend of mine from a Minecraft server I'm a regular on, well, used to be a regular on anyway, told me about Tumblr.
Back when I first joined I had never even considered making my blog about roleplaying, let alone about Pokemon. I stuck mainly to the MLP side of Tumblr until one day I went "Hm... Wonder if Pokemon is on here..." So I looked up Pokemon, and followed the first ask-blog I saw, ask-terrakion. And I go "Huh, pretty cool..." Then I spotted the followed listed and decided to do a little bit of a following spree.
A little browsing later I stumble upon dis and i entered a land of pure imagination and I discovered the roleplay side of the Poke-Ask community!
A few roleplays later I was hooked and Random the Charizard Turned Pony was here to stay.
Movin on to Random, this character. Oh man I love this guy, one of my first permanent OCs. Back on the Minecraft server I mentioned earlier, I used to do some dumb crack roleplays where I played a Charizard, in a fancy suit. My username was Randomguy856, and I was known mostly as Random, so I sorta donned the name "Random the Charizard" So when I joined Tumblr, well, I liked playing him so much I decided to make him my OC for my blog. With the addition of the pony transformation part.
Really, this whole thing has been a big journey, I don't play a big role in the community but I've made quite a few friends and I'm happy I made this guy.
I originally use to be active on a PMD ask blog I made. But it became more than an ask blog...plus, as a dA group related blog. I felt like I didn't truly belong in the ask blog community.
So I made Amadeus. It took me months to figure out what he was, what his gender was, etc. He was going to be a Sylveon originally but there were many Sylveons already. I also considered Clefairy, but I draw Clefairys even more differently than how I draw Togekiss and I thought I'd get a lot of hate. I thought about Swanna too, but it was too irritating to draw.
Then I thought about Togekiss! It was both a bird (kindof...) and a cutesy fairy thing, so I decided to go with it.
As for the name Amadeus, I got it from my Swanna in Black 2, whose name comes from a song.
A response to this telling the backstory of my blog and characters. I made a post like this a while ago, but I guess I'll rewrite it for this because copypasta gets stale.
Edit: put under a cut because I realized this came out a little too long
Way back in the earlier days of the community, around mid-late 2011, a couple friends of mine from the iScribble roleplays I had been joining were starting to make pokemon askblogs. (One was the wonderful owner of the original Ask-Sentret).
I guess it kinda felt like the cool new thing to do, but I had never used Tumblr before and I wasn't sure about diving right into the community myself until I had a good, solid idea for a blog and a direction I wanted to take it in.
I initially "joined" on a blog called stone-of-dawn which I pretty much used to post opinions and reblog pictures related to the ralts and snorunt families and pretended to be a talking Dawn Stone. I followed a few gardevoir/ralts-line blogs with it, which where a pretty big inspiration to me- but I noticed a sort of tension in some of the messages people sent them and the fandom for their species in general.
It kind of felt like everyone either hated male Gardevoir or hated female Gardevoir or hated Gallade for this reason or the next and under the surface of the fandom there was just this big ball of hate?
And I guess when I finally decided which characters I wanted to use it was kind of to help relieve myself from that. They were both characters I'd come up with the concepts for a while ago- and were admittedly concepts that were meant to smack the stereotypes about the evolutionary line in the face, but I'd never found an outlet to use them properly.
I liked the idea of an aloof female gardevoir warrior and I had originally planned to bring the character into some of the iScribble roleplays I was doing at the time- but it didn't really fit the setting, and I didn't want to build a while new medieval pokemon world for just one character. So I kind of shifted things around, and, feeling a little bit inspired by the reporter NPC with a Gardevoir in Platinum, decided to put her in that position in the modern day while keeping the core of her personality.
I also had a character that I was initially going to use for the PMD-E group- basically a kirlia who wanted to be a Gardevoir and evolved into a Gallade by mistake. I thought he would be good to use for the blog because it would be an interesting plot point to have him look like a Gardevoir, and have a big revellation. (Unfortunately, that wound up happening way back in the early days of the blog and the majority of my current followers missed it)
I named them Endive and Basil to go with the leafy vegetable theme that had come about for the ralts-line pokemon in some of the iScribble roleplays- a friend and I used to roleplay a Gardevoir and Gallade called Kale and Spinach. There really wasn't anything more to it than that but looking back, I honestly don't think I could have come up with better names for them if I'd tried.
I wrote out a brief amount of backstory, and tentatively made the decision to connect Basil to my Galactic Grunt character who at the time, was unnamed and also little more than a concept. I liked working with the Sinnoh universe because I played Platinum most and was able to take the most information from it, and I felt like Hearthome City would be a good place to set my characters in.
I was really nervous about using a popular species for multiple reasons- I was afraid of blending in with too many others of the species, and of getting people who were obsessed with the species but would try to throw a bunch of fandom stereotypes on them, etc. I spent a little while debating whether my characters would be unique enough to stand out from the crowd and break free of being "just another Gardevoir blog"- and at first, maybe that's all they really were to most people. Maybe that's still all they are to some people, I dunno. But I have a lot of appreciation for the people who stuck with me in spite of that.
I let everything else develop from there. Their personalities, interests, habits, etc. became more thorough over time. Tibnog and Silvio popped up as extra background characters initially, and just kept coming back. Toadstool was part of Rocket Gardevoir's egg giveaway back in- Oh, geeze, April 2012 I think. Was it really that long ago? Oh man... I decided to use her as an outlet for a character I'd been wanting to create and develop for a while, though. My full plans for her have yet to be set into action.
Sometimes I wish I had started with a more thorough backstory, but at the same time I don't think I could have built everything up without the help of the community and the questions that made me think.
There's a lot of things I regret doing- too many pointless anon magics that did nothing for my characters, spending so much time on that whole fusemon plot- but at the same time I feel like messing around with all those pointless things helped me to find what the track I wanted to take was.
(noah kinda just popped into my mind i gave him his name and what color of gardevoir, the real pain is trying to find out how he would talk and act really, i guess that's it
