Unova Protagonists + Team
So this is my headcanon for Hilda, Hilbert, Rosa, and Nate and their teams in the gameverse. Hilbert becomes champion first, followed by Rosa, while Hilda and Nate do their own separate thing.
Hilbert's team is based entirely around Pokémon that are friendly and affectionate. He is extremely close to his Pokémon, which is why he maintains the same team. Hilda recieves her first Pokémon, Solosis, from her parents. Instead of taking on the Unova gym challenge, Hilda makes a name for herself as a formidable opponent on the Battle Subway. She tries to keep her team relatively balanced between offensive and defensive.
(Side note: Hilbert is the only protag to not change his team at all, while Hilda changes her team the most.)
Rosa favors Pokémon that look big and tough as they make her feel more safe out in the world. She becomes champion while Hilbert is searching for N. Nate ends up being taken under Hilda's wing and fights on the Battle Subway. He idolizes her, but takes a bit care into selecting his team than Hilda does, trying not to change his team as much and keep it more type balanced.
After the events of the games, Hilda leaves Unova to take on the Hoenn and Sinnoh Battle Frontiers. Nate takes over as top trainer in the Battle Subway. Hilbert is eventually reunited with N. He doesn't challenge Rosa's claim to the championship title, instead going to work for Pokéstar Studios with the hope to make historical documentaries about Unova. Rosa takes her job as champion seriously, though she does sometimes sneak away to appear in Pokéstar movies with Nancy and Christoph.
