Lyra ~❀˖° by otokakoto
I like to imagine that the Johto game mechanic of headbutting trees is because in Johto it's common to greet your loved ones with a gentler headbutt, which a lot of people outside of Johto (mainly Kantonians) find odd and jarring.
Silver sees Ethan gently headbutting Lyra as a greeting and is confused, and is even more flummoxed when Ethan tries to headbutt him as well.
Genuinely so obsessed with the fact that Silver is Giovanni's son.
For the first however many years of his life, he's been raised in the culture of Team Rocket. (I know he's canonically 11 at the beginning of the game, but I refuse to believe that 11 year olds are wandering the wilderness with dangerous animals hiding in every patch of grass so I elect to headcanon them as at least 15.)
He was going to join them one day. He was going to be Giovanni's successor. Hell, it's highly plausible that Ariana is his mother, so it's basically the Family Business.
And then Red, a kid not much older than him, brings it all toppling down. He cut off the head and the ekans died.
Giovanni abandons him. Silver presumably runs away from home in the aftermath, determined to become strong all on his own, in a way he believes the father he once so admired could never do.
He thinks Giovanni is weak. He decides that he will never be like Giovanni. But he was raised to believe that cruelty and fear are the best way to make your subordinates follow you, to push them to be the strongest they can be. He doesn't see the flaw in his own logic, even though he just watched it unfold right in front of him.
He puts so much of himself into Not Being Weak that he can't see that he is becoming exactly like his father. A man who rules by tyranny and fear, whose subordinates could never live up to their own potential because they were too busy cowering from him.
And then he meets the player. A 'weakling' who beats him time and time again, whose pokemon are raised with love and respect. He grinds his teeth every time because what the fuck? Why can't he win? This kid is roaming the countryside with pokemon chosen not for strength, but for companionship. Sure, they're beating gym leaders, but anyone can do that. Silver is pushing his pokemon to the absolute limit, but he can't seem to get the same results as one airheaded kid with a soft heart.
He watches them thwart Team Rocket three times. He watches them collect gym badges. He loses to them again and again.
But he makes it to the Indigo Plateau. He wipes the floor with every single trainer in Victory Road. He's the strongest person headed to the Pokemon League.
And then he challenges the player again, at the end of Victory Road.
And loses.
But, after being lectured by people like the monk in the Sprout Tower, Lance, and a dozen other 'bleeding hearts' over the course of his journey through Johto, he can no longer deny the results. He has some serious soul searching to do. He leaves to head to Kanto, to train more.
And then the next time he loses to the player in Mt Moon, he accepts that maybe his approach isn't quite right. He shifts a little on his axis.
He decides to head back to the Dragon's Den. At some point, he manages to evolve his golbat into a crobat, which can only be done through affection. The player finds him there, and he teams up with them to battle against Clair and Lance, someone he lost badly to last time.
And he and the player win. It's not the victory he wants, because he wants to be able to stand under his own power, but it does serve to show him another way.
He will train his pokemon, and work on himself. To be better than he was before.
He will never be like Giovanni.
my kanto and johto girls....
Hadestown AU preview
Lyra was a poor girl working on a song. She could make you see how the world could be.
Silver was a hungry young boy. He saw how the world was. But he fell, in spite of himself, in love with Lyra.
She may be the new best strongest Fire Striker in the game, but honestly, half of why I wanted her in the first place was because I literally couldn’t do the Extreme Battle without her. Like, I have Sygna Morty, and I have Arc Silver, but those are tanks above all else! Kind of wishing I had sprung for Variety Ethan when that was running, but I’m pretty sure I prioritized something else at the time. I’ll double check that.
EDIT: Juliana and Florian! No wonder I was never gonna go for Variety Ethan!
