Shirokuma Cafe

Shirokuma Cafe (Polar Bear Café/シロクマカフェ) is a manga series by Aloha Higa (ヒガアロハ). There is also a very popular anime, and until quite recently, a real life café based on the manga.

The real life Shirokuma Cafe was located in Takadanobaba, Tokyo, between 2012 and 2020. In July 2021 the café relocated to Hirara, Miyakojima, but closed for good in May 2023.

Due to the pandemic I never got a chance to visit the Miyakojima location, but I did go to the Takadanobaba one. These photos are from 2019.

I'm a big fan of the Shirokuma Cafe manga and anime, and I think it's deeply unfortunate the cafe closed. The theming was on point, ans it was such welcoming place.

Although the café is now gone, I still highly recommend the manga and anime. It's a very relaxing slice-of-life with very cute characters.
