Blue Star Significance

Thanks to @midnight-in-town​ for prompting me to post this! After 123 came out, I did a brief “research” session on the blue star (likely Sirius) Polarius referred to. The results may be coincidental, but we think they have the potential to foreshadow some things in this arc nonetheless.

Literal blue stars are:

A blue giant is a hot star with a luminosity class of III (giant) or II (bright giant). In the standard Hertzsprung–Russell diagram, these stars lie above and to the right of the main sequence. 

But what’s more interesting is this:

In Frank Waters's writings on Hopi mythology, the Blue Star Kachina or Saquasohuh, is a kachina or spirit, that will signify the coming of the beginning of the new world by appearing in the form of a blue star. The Blue Star Kachina is said to be the ninth and final sign before the "Day of Purification", described as a catastrophe or a "world engulfing cataclysm" that will lead to the purification of planet Earth.

This really fits with the goal of the Blue Sect and their supposed radiance. It also fits Editor K’s tweet about how this arc will impact the main plot meaningfully. Taking all of this into account, we can gather that something very important is about to go down that could change the course of the story indefinitely and break the status quo. 

And it might be done in the name of purification, or the purest form of dedication there is - “love.”

Another bonus fun fact is that Sirius itself was described as blue by a couple ancient poets (Marcus Manilius and Avienus). However, most people in history saw it as red or white. Consensus is that Sirius flashes blue, red, and white hues to the human eye. (Some have speculated that Sirius A and B are the red and blue stars, but scientists rejected this theory because the timing isn’t logical/compatible/possible)

Super Crack Theory: Polarius’ Identity

We only know a few things about Polarius. For one, we know he’s a butler:

Polarius’ room is also in poor shape. It appears that it’s been cut by knives or a sword.

Ready for my cracked prediction? Polarius is Tanaka.

Think about it for a moment. Tanaka is a butler, and we’ve seen his skills with a sword.

Now, I know what you’re probably thinking. How could it be Tanaka unless he can be two places at once? Wouldn’t Ciel notice if Tanaka was missing?

Well, Tanaka hasn’t really appeared in this arc outside of the Halloween chapter. Plus, the focus isn’t really on the servants. Tanaka doesn’t have so much as designated job, so he might be able to disappear a bit. There’s nothing to say he can’t be going to and from the Blue Sect.

As for his reasons? Well if this cult has anything to do with extending life and such, remember that Tanaka did somehow survive the fire that destroyed the manor.

Of course this is a crack theory.  I’m not saying that it’s likely, but it is a fun idea to play with.

Random Musing: It seems strange that Polarius, being a butler would stay in a room that not only looks messy but seems to be tore apart. Perhaps this could indicate a butler that’s so involved in serving their master that they would let their own room fall into disarray, but the slashes seem to show some sort of inner violence. Perhaps Polarius is very angry for some reason.
