One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson was arrested on suspicion of simple battery for allegedly pulling a photographer to the floor at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said Saturday.
One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson was arrested on suspicion of simple battery for allegedly pulling a photographer to the floor at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said Saturday.
Tomlinson, 25, was booked at the LAPD's Pacific Division, where he posted $20,000 bail and was released at 1:32 a.m. Saturday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Airport police were dispatched to the Terminal 4 baggage claim at 8:25 p.m. Friday on a report of a disturbance, LAX police officer Alicia Hernandez said.
"Upon arrival, a police investigation revealed that suspect Tomlinson, of England, traveling with a female companion, was involved in a physical altercation with a photographer," Hernandez said. "Witnesses stated that Tomlinson pulled the photographer to the floor by his legs, causing the victim to fall backwards and strike his back and head on the floor."
The photographer was taken to an area hospital, where his condition was not immediately known, she said.
A female witness began to video record Tomlinson's companion as she attempted to leave. A fight then broke out between the singer's companion and the female witness, Hernandez said.
Tomlinson allegedly tried to take the woman's cell phone by grabbing her wrist, causing her to fall to the floor. During the altercation, the woman was struck in the eye, Hernandez said.
"The female witness and the photographer both filed Private Persons Arrest statements," she said. "The photographer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The female witness was treated on scene and released."
E News reported Saturday that Tomlinson's lawyer, Martin Singer, told the press the altercation was provoked.
"The paparazzi provoked and caused the altercation that occurred with Louis," Singer told the press, according to E News. "While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during this incident and he came to her defense."
Tomlinson has a scheduled March 29 court date in Dept. W90 of the LAX Superior Court, 11701 S. La Cienega Blvd., according to sheriff's records.
The Metropolitan Police are due to make a statement in about 15 minutes time.

The BBC's political editor Laura Kuenssberg, who is in Parliament, says it is a "very tense" situation there with people told they cannot leave.
"It is clearly a very dangerous situation," she says.
She says there are unconfirmed reports of bomb squad officers now inside Parliament and the military on the streets outside.
There are also reports, she adds, that other government departments are in lockdown but makes clear she cannot confirm this.
Overview of Met Police statement on terrorist incident
Met treating it as terror incident
Met commander BJ Harrington is making a statement. He says although he is "open-minded" to the motives, it is being treated as a terrorist incident.
He says there are a number of casualties but he cannot confirm the number or the nature of injuries.
Asked whether the incident is over, the officer says he cannot speculate but his focus is on keeping London safe.
Senior police officer eye-witnessed incident
It appears that the Met's current acting commissioner Craig Mackie was an eye-witness to the incident as he was in the area at the time. He is not injured but could provide absolutely vital testimony.
Sandford: Details 'very sketchy'
The BBC's Daniel Sandford says the Met's statement was very interesting and that although the details are "very sketchy" at this stage, it is clear the police are treating it as a terror attack.
