Golden Hour Along the Mondego
The heat of the day had begun to loosen its grip, but the light was still holding on.
Along the Mondego, the plane trees caught the last of the September sun. Their trunks turned briefly gold while long shadows crossed the promenade and the river moved quietly beside them.
People passed beneath the branches without paying much attention to the light.
Someone sat on a bench in the distance.
Cyclists crossed the bridge.
The evening continued as though nothing unusual was happening.
That was probably why I stopped.
Not because the scene was dramatic, but because it felt complete for a few minutes. The trees, the river, the fading warmth and the unhurried movement of people going somewhere else.
Most places do not announce the moment they become memorable.
Sometimes the light changes, the pace softens, and an ordinary stretch of riverbank becomes something you carry with you.
